Not celebrating DC first birthday on actual day?

PFB so may be a little dramatic Grin

Am learning very fast that the images you have in your head re: childrens life can be different from what actually happens! But i cant help feel disappointed!

DC first birthday falls on a late week day, and DH cannot get the day off work ( he will leave the house whilst DC is still asleep)

DGM is coming over and we intend to take DC out for the day, and small party at the weekend

Am i being silly? Fretting about maybe delaying gift giving ,until DH is free to watch? But then i feel we havent marked the actual day? It feels so important!( i realise DC wont have a clue either way!)
What did eveyone else do?

We postponed DS2's 5th birthday for a whole week because I was away overseas with work.

Baby won't know or care.

They won’t understand anyway.

We've always celebrated birthdays on the weekend before or after (usually after). You don't even need to tell them it's not their actual birthday for the first three years. Never took the day off childcare or school, just presents from me in the morning, favourite dinner, main celebration at the weekend.
