Baby still not weight bearing at 13 months old, should I be worried?
When should I worry?

What do you mean by weight bearing?

You mean they have no interest in pulling themselves up to standing?

Are they otherwise mobile so crawling even in a non-traditional way, and can get around every where they want to?

BertieBotts · 23/03/2022 18:27

The 12 month milestone is mobility - crawling, bum shuffling, etc.

Walking is 18 months. So don't worry :)

Can you explain more what you mean?

If they're not walking at this age then I wouldn't worry, that's totally within the usual range.

If you mean they can't weight bear at all when for example you're holding them up, then I'd probably look into it further at this stage - maybe speak to a health visitor or GP about whether you need a physio referral.

What do they do if you hold them under the arm pits and then stand them up?

Penguins321 · 23/03/2022 18:48

So he bum shuffled and will pull up onto his knees using furniture, if I hold him up to try stand he cries and doesn’t straighten his legs or he’ll straighten them fit a second then bend again

OP it's actually in the range of normal.

However as it is worrying you contact your HV and say what you put in your second post. Then ask for a referral to a physio or paediatrician.

@RedWingBoots I’ve seen the HV but she didn’t seem concerned:( it’s just getting harder and harder to watch other babies standing and cruising and my baby just seems so behind

Mine was the same - we were black marked at the 12 month review as they weren’t weight bearing. Also a bum shuffler. I wouldn’t worry unless there are other reasons to until 18 months.
Mine just got up one day! Started walking (no falls unlike my younger one who started earlier) at 17 months. You’d never know now!
Bum shufflers walk later as they can reach everything with their hands.

I took my daughter to the baby clinic because she wasn't walking. The doctor asked if she crawled and suddenly tossed s ball across the room. My girl went after it like a whippet, then climbed up the side of the doctor's chair. There was obviously
nothing wrong with her muscles and coordination. The doctor said she would get up on her feet when she couldn't reach for something any other way.
It was true that she just used to point and babble at something and her sister would run and get it.
My daughter finally walked when she couldn't reach a yoghurt on the kitchen table. Hopefully it'll be the same for you.

@Flackattack I’m really hoping he’s at least cruising for when we go on holiday:(

To add this was our second so I didn’t really worry - had it been our first. . . !

BertieBotts · 24/03/2022 09:05

Your baby isn't behind. I bet she can do things that those other babies can't do! In some ways it's a bit of a nightmare if they are cruising and you're in a new location because there are often hazards that you won't be able to change and she will be making a beeline for them. It will actually be easier to have her staying on one level. Don't worry. I'm sure your holiday will be wonderful.

It's good that the health visitor isn't concerned. It means you shouldn't be either :)
