Stairgate conundrum

I have hunted the internet high and low for a solution to this problem and can't find anything, so I'm really hoping one of you lovelies can help!

We need a stairgate for the top of our stairs but it is SUCH an awkward place.

On one side there is a rounded post which is a problem to start with, although I have found various kits for strapping wooden posts to it, so hopefully we can work around that. On the opposite side though is a wall with a big, mounted handrail that extends past the top of the stairs, making it impossible to attach a gate to the wall. The stairs are steep so I am very reluctant to remove the handrail. It wouldn't even work cutting the end off the handrail because of where the fittings for it are.

Has anyone come across anything that will attach to a handrail, perhaps by making another post, or something that can attach to the wall below and above it with a big enough space for the handrail to go through? Or any other solution?!

Please tell me this isn't impossible to work around!

Does it have to go on the stairs? Could you put one on the doors of the upstairs rooms instead?

Probably not much help but we had really awkward stairs (round posts, split level landing etc) so my solution was 1 stair gate in the kitchen (main living area) and just made sure they were with me all the time - not ideal as one was a wee ratbag escape artist but luckily there were no casualties.

Also had a playpen thing which helped.

I have the rounded post problem, so I just put the stair gate at my child's door. (I also had a fear that someone would fall into the stair gate at the top of the stairs, it would come away, and they'd still tumble to the bottom. But that's something else...)

We used to live in a 4 storey house with lots of steep staircases. It was easiest to have stairgates on the rooms where DC were left unattended for short periods of time (for us that was the living room and their bedroom).

Would something like this work around the handrail?

Thanks for all the suggestions! Thinking that putting a stairgate on her room might be the best solution till we figure the other problem out.
