Childminder tips for extremely upset 1 year old

Hi,
My DD (13 months) is starting with a childminder 2 days per week in a few weeks when I go back to work. She had her first settling session without me last week and it was awful- she cried hysterically the entire time and the childminder said she was really panicking 😢. I was of course expecting some tears but didn’t think it would be 90 minutes crying. The childminder comforted her and said towards the end she did calm a little sat on her knee with her dummy and teddy and almost fell asleep (worn out from crying).
We have another session this week and just wondering if anyone has any tips on anything I could do in the mean time to help?
DD is very wary of people and does take a while to warm up so I am expecting settling to take time- but hoping she won’t be quite so sad for much longer.

Thanks!

Could you go to the same playgroup or something where the childminder is so that dd can see her and you in the same place?

I do supply teaching and when I'm in EYFS I try to give the impression that I know the teacher and it often makes the dd feel more comfortable.

No advice here OP unfortunately but just to say I understand, our little boy is 10 months & had his first settling session at nursery today & cried pretty much the whole time too 😫😫 it’s so hard seeing them upset isn’t it?

He sounds similar to your DD in that he’s very wary of new people & takes a while to warm up to them (thanks Covid!!)

He has another settling session tomorrow so hoping that goes better, hoping for a better one for you later this week as well, good luck!!

Sorry you’re going through it too, horrible isn’t it! I’m having sleepless nights worrying about it. I just have a gut feeling she really isn’t ready for it yet- but there’s no choice when you have to go back to work is there!

I hope the session tomorrow is more successful for you 🤞🏼

Yeah I could definitely try and do this a few times, thank you!
