Wind, cold or sunburned?

Went to the park with 7 month old baby today. It was super cold, quite windy but also perfectly clear with blue skies. I had the hood of her pram down intermittently. I've noticed now after coming home that her cheeks are slightly red. I'm kicking myself for not being more careful but I'm also not sure what it is. Could it be from the wind or cold rather than the sun? Is she likely to get sunburned in March? Is there any way to tell? I guess I could see if it starts peeling in a few days. Sad Her cheeks did go red a few times in the cold in winter but because today was such s clear day I'm not sure what it is.

South Asian skin but she's fairly light coloured.

I'm so upset that I've let this happened. I'm never sure where to draw the line in terms of sun exposure to make sure they get a bit of vitamin d but today I was just being careless. Sad

In what circumstances do other People use sunscreen normally?

I don't think for a minute it will be sunburn in the circumstances you describe. Red cheeks could be from the cold, the fresh air, teething.. anything.

We do need vitamin D. I've heard that lots of us are quite deficient in it.

It'll be the cold/ wind especially if she had any dribble o her cheeks. It can happen easily and isntnt something to upset yourself about.

Weleda make a wet/windy weather face protector balm for babies that is very good.

Wouldn't worry too much I know that's easy to say. It's probably just a nice healthy rosy cheek from having from fresh air- like you get when you've been for a walk.
Completely unlikely to be sunburn, as you says it's March... and won't peel. You need to be really burnt to peel.
Pop some aloe or lotion on.
As Pp said- teething can look like sun burn on the cheeks.

Thanks so much for the reassurance everyone!! I appreciate that so much. Flowers

Dd's redness seems to have gone now so maybe it was really just the cold or wind though I'll look out got peeling. Phew..maybe a timely warning not to be complacent. I'm still really confused though when to pit ok sunscreen.

I never have as with my skin I don't burn easily. Maybe I should use sunscreen but it's just not something I've ever thought about. Now I'm paranoid though as dd1 got a little sunburnt a few years ago so even with our colouring it's definitely possible. Now with DD1 I tend to err on the side of the caution and just always apply sunscreen if we are out in spring or summer for longer than 30min but at the same time it's not something I want to stress the kids about. What does everyone else do? Do you just apply it by default before going out? Most kids take a vitamin d supplement or multivitamin anyway I guess so maybe getting vit d from the sun isn't really an issue.Hmm

Hello @Soangrywithmyself I just wondered how your LO is now?
I noticed you mentioned that your DD got sunburnt a few years ago and I just wondered how bad it was? Did she peel?
