sorry should have putthat i agree with isaidno. at least she saw it and thought that dd would like it!

SlightlyMadShrek · 06/01/2008 10:31

Not sure. When I was in there before XMas they tried to sell me some sort of teddy at a "special price" because I had spent a certain amount.

It wasn't free though, and I thought the "special price" was probably about right and the "proper price" too expensive IYSWIM.

08aGreatYearForCarmenere · 06/01/2008 10:31

Actually I'm not sure they were free, I remember seeing them but I think they were on sale.

robinredbreast · 06/01/2008 10:38

well it doent have any age on the label so i gave it to dd, 6 months
she then started coughing and being sick the fluff was coming off into her mouth
i thought toys esp teds had to have an age on them ?

i think its nice she gave present no matter how rude she can be-she didnt have too.also i think theres nothing wrong with giving freebies as presents-like boots do that buy 2 get 3rd free sticker thing(same thing).but i have no money and think it would be a waste not to use it for fear of offending someone or being called skanky.

JeremyVile · 06/01/2008 12:15

DS was given the same bear (it's lovely btw) by my mother.

She hasn't 2 pennies to rub together so I rather hope it was a freebie.

robinredbreast · 06/01/2008 13:37

i thought toy had to had an age on them for saftey reasons
some soft toys that are too fluffy are not really for small babies

OP posts:
moljam · 06/01/2008 16:03

in that case i believe its up to parents to decide if the toys appropriate or not.

Tortington · 06/01/2008 16:12

like this?

gordieracer · 06/01/2008 16:15

thay were selling them at my wh smiths for £2.99

robinredbreast · 06/01/2008 18:48

yes quite like that

Actually, that's not the one my mum gave DS.

Our one is called Horace and is really very lovely.

There is no age thing on this label either but the fur does not come away on this one, it is a nice quality.

Still suspect it may have been a freebie though

HappyMummyOfOne · 07/01/2008 11:53

Shouldnt matter if it was a freebie or not - it was still a present and nice of her to give it to your DD.

When Boots do the 3 for 2, do you dislike that as well in case you got the "free" item.

You should be grateful that you DD got a gift. It you dont think its suitable age wise, pop it on a shelf until she's old enough.

Flllightattendant · 07/01/2008 11:59

Oh Golly. Reminds me of the time last year when I found an open carrier bag dumped outside my house on top of a pile of wet cardboard, in the rain.

I nearly threw it then I looked inside and there was the fugliest teddy bear you have ever seen (head way too big for body, and weird expression) and a soggy box of chocolates I seem to recall.

I had only one thought, which was that it had come from my ex.

There wasn't even a care label on the bear, I think it must have been from his mother as she works in a charity shop. No card, nothing. Oh and it was valentines day.

I was pregnant with the git's child.

I think I went for plan A at that point and threw it in the bin. No way was my child going to become attached to a bear that looked like that! He would grow up thinking all bears were evil ugly bastards. No way.

Oh and later my ex denied any knowledge of said plastic bag. He was like that. If ever I saw a backhanded, reluctant, resentful 'gesture' brought on by someone's mother being on their back, that was it...

Flllightattendant · 07/01/2008 12:01

You wouldn't have liked this one, Fio...

it was the bear of satan himself

titchy · 07/01/2008 12:28

Our WHSmith Horace was free... He's very nice though!

biscuitchucker · 22/11/2008 09:36

We've just lost our Horace (which i thought was nice) - and it was DS favourite
