BabyZen YoYo - similar strollers?

Hi! I really want a Babyzen Yo-yo stroller but can't justify the price since I already have a travel system - this would just be for travel. Has anyone got suggestions of strollers which are very similar but more reasonably priced? Or any other stroller which can fold up to cabin size and is lightweight? Thanks!

How about an old fashioned umbrella buggy?

Theyweretheworstoftimes · 20/03/2022 13:15

Silver cross Reflex or Pop or whatever it's now called. Our has been on 100's of flights. You can buy a bag for flights and the crew think it's golf clubs so look after it well. You can't take it on board but take to the aircraft door and then it goes in the hold and comes back out at the aircraft door. It's indestructible.

It seems like the Babyzen is really the only one of the "cabin size" worth buying - the others apparently are flimsy knock offs. Some worse than others. The problem is that the mechanism needed to fold it to that size means the whole thing ends up rickety. The Babyzen uses higher quality components and engineering hence the higher price.

Does it really need to be cabin luggage sized? If you can cope with it going in the hold, an umbrella stroller from a medium to decent brand is a good choice. I've had them from Mamas & Papas and OBaby which were fine (I think OBaby is dead now but they were probably similar in quality to Hauck) but I also had a BabyStart (Cuggl) one which was complete junk that I hated. Friends' ones I've been impressed by have been Maclaren and Joie.

If you're set on cabin size the Joie pact and GB Pockit seemed the most cost effective, or what about a second hand Yoyo?

Thanks everyone! I am concerned about buying a cheaper brand and it not being a sturdy and too flimsy. Not sure if anyone knows anything about a the MiniUno touchfold?!

What about the ABC Ping or Oyster Zero Gravity?

Watch the videos from stroller workshop that I posted. Not heard of that stroller, but just looking at the photos, it has all the red flags. Gimmicky feature (why does it need to fold itself?) Too good to be true price, seat looks very shallow, folded picture doesn't look that small, or sturdy. Tiny plastic wheels. Only stocked in the bargain stores. My guess would be cheap made in China quality.

Look for a Cybex Eezy Twist - the older version and not the 2+. It's very similar to the Yoyo, the older version is cabin baggage sized and it is both lie flat and you can spin the seat so baby can face you or world. Not sure why these aren't more popular! They aren't cheap new but you can get them second hand in great condition for a bargain unlike the yoyos which are insane even bashed up.

We've got the mamas and papas version, which I got in their sales for £99 in addition to our main m&p pushchair. It folds up (hand baggage size) for the plane and has been really handy for bus/tubes etc in our London life. It can only be used from 6 months though. I can't find it online though so I don't know if they've discontinued it? We use either one of our pushchairs daily, and my son has just turned 3 so we got it about 2.5 years ago.

I spent a long time researching travel strollers for DD- that stroller workshop YouTube channel still comes up in my suggested videos as a result Grin I was slightly obsessed with finding one that was cabin sized but ended up going with a Cybex Eezy S+. We skipped the spinning option as the seat on that version is smaller, and at 2.5yo she's still got plenty of room in ours.

Anyway now we've been on plenty of flights (15>) with her I don't see any real appeal with the cabin sized ones. We've always been able to wheel the pram right up to the door of the plane on departure, and we've never waited that long at baggage collection on the other side. If you bring it on as hand luggage it's just another thing to juggle along with a baby and change bag in the tiny confines of the cabin. Basically, save your money, get something nominally larger but more cost effective than a yo-yo and buy a sling or hip seat if you feel the need.

I have a babyzen which was bought for all the flying exotic holidays we didn't need up doing, thanks Covid! It fits in the overhead bins so easily and was a godsend with our chubby baby who was too heavy for a sling by 8 months!

In fact I'm selling it now I have a heavy soon to be four year old. They keep their value really well so look for a second hand one on Facebook or eBay etc.

MrsOnions0 · 20/03/2022 18:19

Ergobaby Metro. I feel the suspension is far better than the yoyo. Been on multiple holidays in the cabin. Also lies down flat

TabithaHazel · 20/03/2022 18:19

Have you checked eBay OP? Usually lots of yoyos on there for half the retail price if you don't mind secondhand.

BerthaYoung · 20/03/2022 18:39

OP we have the MiniUno TouchFold. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it. The folding down thing is easy and handy. And actually the whole thing feels reasonably sturdy as well as modern. It doesn’t go as small as I hoped but it’s very easy to get into the car boot unlike the UppaBaby we had before. Not sure about seat depth relative to other buggies as DD is only 16 months still. The seat isn’t as upright as I would have liked, but I spent ages searching and couldn’t find a reclinable one that is. Wheels are tiny which is a pain on uneven ground/curbs and the brake is positioned stupidly so we sometimes kick it on by accident. Pros and cons! Still covet the YoYo when I see them around!

Abridget7 · 20/03/2022 18:56

Have a look on Facebook marketplace for a second hand YoYo. That's where we got ours for a holiday last year but we now use it every day. It was a brilliant purchase. They hold their value quite well so you could also sell on when you're done with it.

20viona · 20/03/2022 18:58

I've got a chicco goody and it has a brilliant one handed fold and goes pretty small.

ohbabybaby22 · 22/03/2022 08:17

We got the Joie Pact, it is very light and folds down small. Really fancied a yoyo but couldn't justify the price 🙈
