Hi Mums,

I am a first time mum to my daughter and she is 4 weeks old. I have changed her bottles from mam to the avent bottles which have made a massive differences. I changed my daughter on Aptamil comfort milk from the first milk and it made such a difference with her wind and colic which I thought we solved the issue. The comfort milk is very thick so we changed her teat to a faster flow, now we are noticing after 2 weeks of her being on milk that she is being sick after every feed but her wind is coming up much better.

Do we change her milk to Aptamil anti-reflux milk to see if this help as I think the thicker milk is helping her with her wind? Has anyone experienced something like this.

Thank you.

As wind is actually coming up sick is too. It's really normal for young babies to be sick after a feed. Seeing as she's not upset don't worry about it. It's good the wind is coming up. You could see if she can go back to the size one teat but obviously not is she's getting frustrated with slow flow.

We tried ALL the bottles when I had my 1st and did use comfort milk for a bit. If she is generally happy and sleeping and pooing ok then no worries about the sick. Babies just puke a bit.

To answer your question don't change the milk unless you really have to. At 1 month she is massively increasing her milk intake as her stomach is getting bigger. They will throw up what doesn't fit and it will stretch until it can fit what baby's drinking inside. Inconvenient, but completely fine. Keep Muslins and baby wipes everywhere.

I realise I have just assumed that your LO is sleeping and pooing ok and generally happy, you haven't said she is majorly distressed so hopefully my assumption is right. Probably taking that from you saying her colic has been improved by the comfort milk.

Bottles and milk are a complete minefield. Comfort milk is partially hydrolysed (proteins broken down smaller so should be easier to digest). Reflux milk has a thickener which is supposed to keep milk in the tummy. It caused my 1st LO constipation and didnt help with her silent reflux. Also normally need to use a size 3 or X teet which really would be unsuitable for such a young baby and could lead to choking. That's my personal opinion though. Tried on 2 DC's unsuccessfully.

Congratulations on your lovely new born!
