Do you give 12+ month old a multivitamin? (UK)

Hey,

Just wondering if you give your baby over a year old a multivitamin?

If so, what kind?

My 16 month old eats well. He hasn't had formula since 12 months. I don't give him any vitamin supplements - should I?

Thanks

Yes I do and the advice is to give a multivitamin once they have a lower amount of formula, I use wellbaby multivitamin liquid because that has iron in as well. Things like vitamin D they need from a multivitamin in this country x

Thanks yes...he is my second and I didn't actually realise that was the nhs advice. The wellbaby stuff is a liquid, isn't it? Do you find your baby takes it happily enough or do you put it in something? Thank you!

Sorry reread and saw you mentioned it is a liquid!

Yes I did following NHS advice.

I give her the healthy start vitamin drops - they’re the cheapest is the mean reason! And they’re the nhs recommended ones. I have done since she dropped below a certain amount of formula, think it was about 600ml? She’s about 20 months now.

I put 5 drops in a cup of milk, or sometimes put it on her cereal.

I don’t worry too much if we forget a day as she has a pretty well balanced diet up to now with tons of fruit (could do better on the veg but some at least). Likewise if we have a crapper day food wise it reassures me that she’s had them.

You can usually buy them from your HV clinic or in Superdrug.

I do, as that is the NHS recommendation. My son is 12 months and eats lots of fruit and vegetables and a varied diet but the main thing is the lack of vitamin D. My health visitor pointed out that you would need to eat like 15 eggs a day to get the amount of recommended vitamin D Shock. I use the Wellbaby liquid which he is reluctant with when mixed into water or milk so I stir it into food instead and he'll happily eat it. I've got some of the healthy start drops too which might be a bit easier.

Yes of course

Thanks all. Will get something sorted.

I hadn't actually read the info on NHS website about babies needing a multivitamin. Never thought to look it up before now. I did know about vitamin D when breastfeeding but hadn't considered after weaning.

It's vitamins A, C and D it's advised to supplement up to age 5 once they take less than 500mls of infant formula each day
