How long is sickness ok?

Dd1 has been sick since 10pm on Saturday. Can’t keep fluids down. I know she’s likely to bounce back as quickly as she became ill but I’m a panicker.

NHS website says to call GP if dehydrated or throwing up bile. She has dry lips and sick is a mixture of clear/ bright yellow. I am likely to spend 45 mins on hold to GP when they open. Would 111 be better or not necessary?

Dd is currently sitting watching peppa pig. Tired but ok.

I'd ring 111. Did a couple of weeks ago when my daughter was sick as I was worried she'd not done a wet nappy in a few hours. They arranged for a doctor to ring me back and she went through what to look out for with me - I kept an eye on DD and she improved so there was no need to do anything more than give her regular water in the end, but it was really helpful to speak to someone who knew what they were talking about!

I would check with 111 if that is easier

Are you giving fluids all the time - I know it may sound odd but I always give fluids even if they come up as some must come in and it is far easier to through up that than bile

Do you have any rehydration fluids or can you get them. If not sipping water alongside drinking a sugary or fruit juice. I have to have old fashioned lemonade, DD has to have blackcurrant squash

If she’s over 5 you can do 111 online and if necessary can book a nurse to call you back.

But in my experience, during GP opening hours unless it’s really serious (like A&E serious), 111 just say ring GP. And you might miss any GP slots if you spend time with 111 first.

Thanks everyone. She’s 1. I phoned 111 and they’ve booked us a GP appt at 9.30. I’m sure they will say just to keep an eye on her, but I want to be sure.

Yes offering her water/ squash and she still wants to bf quite a bit. Hopefully it will pass in the next few hours!

Bile can be anything from bright yellow to brown and often appears oily. You’ve done the right thing ringing up.
