Is my baby getting enough breast milk?

I have a 4 month old baby boy, and since birth he's been an awful sleeper and wakes every 2 to 3 hours... that was until a few nights ago... I still can't believe the sudden change now! He's been waking up twice for two short feeds which is totally not like him at all. He seems ok and happy ish during the day I know he's teething and it appears to torture him lately 😞 but other than that I haven't suspected anything to be seriously wrong? Anyway my concern is he's never fed much during the day despite me trying previously he just wouldn't take much from me during the day time he's always made up for it on a night time but now with him only feeding twice I feel like he's not getting enough from me during the day? His feeds are very short and with being four months in I never feel very full these days I have worried about my supply but many people have told me it's normal for my boobs to feel like this at this stage of exclusively breast feeding. However he only seems to latch every now and again for literally what seems like 2 minutes 😔 and I'm worried my supply has dropped over these few days from not feeding during the night...my boobs have been so used to certain feeding patterns so I'm just really worried that he won't be getting enough and hasn't this week...

Ask the midwife to weigh him before and after a feed so you know how much he’s getting.

Midwife scales aren’t accurate or sensitive enough to make this meaningful.

Better to look at the whole child.
Is he weeing? Pooing? If there’s plenty coming out there’s plenty going in. Is he developing appropriately, smiling, interacting more? Does he kick and move when he’s awake?

The sleeping likely means he’s getting enough in the day now- it’s a sign he’s feeding efficiently. If he was hungry he would wake more often. Is he feeding/sucking more to ease his teeth?

He sounds fine to me from what you’ve said. Basically if you’re looking at a happy healthy baby they are getting enough milk.

@Nomoreusernames1244 is spot on, I think. If he seems well and is filling his nappies regularly you likely have nothing to worry about. By four months they are very efficient at feeding. My little girl is 5 months and her feeds are really short and she seems to spend half of them peering around instead of sucking, the nosey madam. But —she’s very lively and as far as butter!
