Calpol for teething?

Hi!

My 8m old is really struggling with his top teeth coming in. I'm reluctant to keep bunging Calpol down him but not really sure why this is.

Would you keep giving doses of Calpol for as long as he's sad? Have tried chews, cold carrots and melon etc. But he seems really upset all the time.

Thanks!

Yes, though is alternate with nurofen and get some anbesol liquid as well!

Seeline · 13/03/2022 11:27

If he's in pain why wouldn't you give Calpol? Surely you take paracetamol or similar for toothache, headache, backache etc?

We also found the teething powders worked well.

Yes of course give him Calpol!
Nelson’s teething powders are good too.

I don't know! Just a vague idea it's somehow 'bad' to keep shoving paracetamol into him. But yes of course I'd keep taking it if I was in pain. Right ok, thanks guys.

Will pop to the pharmacy after his nap to see what the pharmacist recommends too

Get anbesol liquid (not gel) from the pharmacist. It's great. Just rub on his gums with your finger - works wonders!

Ibuprofen is better for them when teething than paracetamol fyi, so try that

Jk987 · 13/03/2022 12:37

Try baby Nurofen instead. I think it tackles the teething pain better than Calpol.

I know what you mean about giving medicines but as long as you space the doses out it's ok. You know when they really need it.

LittleOwl153 · 13/03/2022 12:39

Check with the pharmacist how long you should give baby calpol for before seeking other help. Likely only a day or 2...

Vicky1989x · 13/03/2022 12:44

Anbesol liquid is a god send. Make sure you ask for the liquid not the gel.

As someone else said, I find nurofen better for teething pain.

LinnaW · 13/03/2022 13:28

Thanks for the suggestions.

Yes I guess it's the idea of giving medication for days and days which worries me - good idea about checking @LittleOwl153

He's already had a couple of days of Calpol this week for a temperature - although he probably did vomit quite a few doses up again poor boy.

Interesting a few of you are recommending nurofen. Think we will give it a go because the Calpol I gave him yesterday evening didn't seem to help much anyway.

He was sad with his bottom teeth but these top two seem really sore.

Ok nurofen and anbesol liquid on the list. We did use gel for his bottom teeth but I don't think it did anything except make him puzzled.

Nurofen seems to have improved his mood, he's on the floor atm saying da da to a purple stacking cup. Hooray

Yes my 9 month old has just cut her two bottom teeth and she needed Calpol and nurofen for 3-5 days whilst they cut
As soon as they popped through she was back to being settled again
