School shoe help

Apologies if this is the wrong place.

Dd is 8, she needs new school shoes as her current ones are hurting her. Got her measured by an independent shop today and she has gone up a size.

Problem is she is at that age where the styles she likes aren't in her size and what is in her size is really babyish.

She can't wear supermarket shoes so needs to be something similar to clarks or startrite.

Are there any alternatives as she was less than impressed with the offerings today. Extra points for online ordering as she has a dance show tomorrow so I really don't have time to go shopping tomorrow.

Thanks

Oh, and if she toe curls avoid ballet flat styles like the plague.

Can't wear supermarket shoes because of toe curling...will happily be put in a ballet flat, because it's from Clarks.

Confused

Clarks shoes are no better than some good quality supermarket shoes. I remember Asda having really decent school shoes a few years ago. You can tell by the feel of them, the quality of the sole and if they bend.

Ballet pumps are shockingly bad for kids.

An independent shoe shop with a range of brands might be your best bet. Start rite, superfit, geoxx, pablosky are all great.

Well, yes.

There was a short period of time when dd was little when Asda shoes fitted her. They were indestructable and so supportive. Sadly as she grew they were not wide enough any more.

Luckily for us as well ballet pump style shoes were banned at dd's (specialist ballet!!!) school!

Hi OP - it sounds like she needs the same kind of shoes that I used to need (and my DS now needs) width enough at the toes but narrow enough at the heels - I have what my parents used to describe as flipper feet - shoes that fit me across the toes I usually step out of.
What I used to have to do was have half-insoles and heel grips on some shoes. For my DS who is the same, what we have to do is make sure that whatever shoes he has that the laces/ Velcro straps come high enough up his foot so the foot opening is narrow and therefore he can't 'step clean out' the shoes. It's painful for me money wise as he has to have indoor shoes and outdoor shoes for school and unlike most other kids he can't wear the cheap supermarket gym pumps others wear inside as he walks out of the heels, but have to buy him black trainers for inside.

When I was at school when a bit older I wore DM shoes (not boots), which suited my wider toes/narrow heel, before that, as I say, half insoles, and heel grips & even though I really wanted to, I never was able to wear the ballet pump types shoes my friends wore, so I think you are going to have to just tell her it's tough, her feet don't suit that style of shoe...

Dd hates shoe shopping... But has for the last few years chosen her shoes from m&s black leather they were £££ but lasted the whole year and still looked good

Ilostit · 17/03/2022 12:04

My ten year old wears lace up Matt leather brogues from Clark’s.

These they come in smaller sizes

Comefromaway · 17/03/2022 12:05

Clarks shoes we found don't have enough depth if you have a high instep. My daughter walked out of them all.

Try Start-Rite and Geox.

fixyourfences · 17/03/2022 12:16

Are you still looking OP? I second a pp's suggestion of Geox. Plenty available on Amazon for next day delivery and/or prime wardrobe (try and return)

QuinkWashable · 17/03/2022 12:17

This brand is excellent - their winter boots at least, I find they fit my and my kids wide feet very well and are of extremely good quality:

They have ballerina pumps - I don't know if that's what you mean though?
