Lunch ideas for 10M old

DD is 10 months and has been eating food from around 6 months. She's very curious with food and willing to try everything at least once which is great. She sometimes goes off of food when she's teething and will only eat things like fruit, yoghurt or porridge but that's not that often so it isn't a problem.

The problem is, is that I'm running out of food ideas! She has a set breakfast of porridge and fruit and her dinner can be anything from lasagna/spag bol to chicken and rice/oxtail and spaghetti.
The issue for me seems to be lunch. Everyday I have no clue what to give her for lunch. She may have porridge again or just eat a banana and a yogurt but I wonder if anyone could give me any lunch ideas please??

She's also my first so I have no clue what I'm doing😂 can I give her jam on toast? Can I give her toast with butter on? Can I make tuna pasta and put mayonnaise in it?
Or should those things be avoided because she's still really young and those things are quite sweet/not good for her? This may sound dumb to some people but I thought I'd bring it to MN for some help lol.
Thank you

Toast is fine or make a mini sandwich or a wrap if she's eating finger foods. Tuna pasta sounds fine too.

I give my 11 month old toast with butter, cream cheese or peanut butter (the “healthy” one - no sugar or palm oil).
I wouldn’t give jam personally, too much sugar.

Other useful things to make in advance - cold boiled potatoes, boiled eggs, frittata, pieces of stewed apple, boiled carrot sticks.

NaerDoWell · 10/03/2022 11:21

Mine just used to have what I was having or done finger food. Stuff like

Scrambled egg and toast
Cheese and crackers
Cucumber, fruit
Hummus finger sandwiches
Frittata

I didn't give them jam or sweet stuff except fruit

Toast is fine. Sandwiches are great at this age.

Basically she can have everything but honey, whole nuts (peanut butter is fine and a good idea to give her) or blue cheese.

Mine love anything on toast like eggs or beans. Sandwiches like cheese, ham, tuna, egg, peanut butter or humous.

Hey all, thanks so much for the comments!

I did think jam was a bit too sweet so good thing I've never given it. It's great to know about the sandwiches as I've always just assumed she's too young to eat those sort of things (don't ask me why!)
I'll definitely try the tuna pasta with her too as that's super easy to make.

I'd love to hear anymore suggestions from anyone😂 meals are the one thing I genuinely struggle with as I always hardly eat the same things so don't want to limit DD

I generally go buffet at lunch:

Some kind of protein: tuna, chicken, houmous, peanut butter, mini sausages etc.

Some kind of carb: bread sticks, pitta bread strips, toast, bagel, crackers

Some kind of veg: sweetcorn, cucumber, pepper, tomatoes

Some kind of fruit

Yoghurt (usually in a pouch for ease)

Or we'll do eggs (scrambled, fritter or omelette are favourites) and toast.

AliceW89 · 10/03/2022 13:39

We have a few things almost on repeat:

Jacket potato with topping (beans and cheese or tuna and sweet corn are DS’ faves). At 11 month i would have probably scooped the potato out and mixed it with the topping in his bowl, can’t remember when he was able to eat them as served.

Savoury pancakes: equal measures self raising flour and milk with an egg, then chuck anything in you have in the cupboard (cheese, greater vegetables, nutritional yeast, pesto etc)

Omelettes with oven chips and frozen vegetables

Scrambled egg and toast with avocado

Pasta in a soft cheese sauce with peas and sweetcorn

@NuffSaidSam that all sounds great🤣 can I come round to your house for lunch?!! Seriously tho, thank you. Some great ideas here that I know my daughter will love

@AliceW89 this also sounds great thank you. Would have never thought of savoury pancakes and for some reason I've been convinced she isn't able to eat beans at this age (again, don't ask me why🤦‍♀️) so thank you

To be clear, it's just one from each section per day 😂. I don't actually offer her a full buffet for lunch. One from each section on a plate, easy peasy!

luxxlisbon · 10/03/2022 13:52

Regular lunches for my 8 month old

  • egg muffins with berries and some baby crisps
  • Mini cheese toastie with carrots and a yoghurt
  • avocado and pasta
  • sweetcorn pancakes (Ella’s kitchen recipie but I blend in spinach too)
  • spinach eggy bread (what mummy makes)
I keep a bag of the pancakes in the freezer and slice the eggy bread into fingers and freeze that way I can take out 1 or 2 piece and it’s an easy lunch
  • hummus and falafel with fruit
RestingPandaFace · 10/03/2022 13:52

We always did (actually still do) picky plate. Chopped fruit, veg sticks, a couple of crackers of breadsticks, sliced boiled egg, bits of chicken or ham, sometimes a couple of slices of salami, maybe a cookie. Whatever is in the fridge really.

lilroo87 · 10/03/2022 13:53

One of my 7 month olds favourite things is omelette. You can put all sorts in it. I tend to defrost a block of spinach and then chop that and chop tomatoes with a little bit of cheese. She really enjoys it.
Have a look on yummylittlebelly.com for some ideas :)

Also re jam on toast, I would avoid jam but there are loads of things you can put on toast for an easy lunch or even dinner.
Avocado, hummus, cream cheese, Greek yoghurt and mashed fruit, peanut butter, banana.

@NuffSaidSam 😂😂 haha of course! I just meant you have such a variety of different foods to offer DC. Definitely sounds like my place to be🤣

@luxxlisbon see I think this is the thing. I don't like any of the things mentioned (except for fruit) so I never have them in my house and would never think to offer it to DD. I'm just going to start buying these things and try her with it because she'll most likely be interested in them. Thank you
