4yo missing so much school!

Since she started in September my daughter has had illness after illness. It's only March and I think I've worked out and already had 12 days off. She has asthma so bugs hit her hard. The last fortnight she's had a recurring stomach bug, missed three days already, we've had loose bowels all night again last night so think I have to keep her off today too.

This is making me so miserable, I'm exhausted as I have two kids, between them I haven't slept more than four hours in months and months.

This happens I’m afraid. Have you thought of giving a daily vitamin gummy when she’s better? It might help build up the immune system. Hugs to you 💐

Oh god, I remember those days....DD literally would do one week at school and one week off till she was about 6. (tonsils in her case)
As they get older and more used to bugs and what have you, it does get easier. Flowers

Sambucol really helped my DS when he started school. He was rarely off. Or like pp said, a multivitamin could help.

It is exhausting never getting a full nights sleep 💐

I'd definitely agree with multi vitamins & Sambucol,

Did she go to nursery/pre school/anything before starting school? They usually gather a lot of immunity during this, so starting school isn't so bad.

Does she have a sensitive tummy?
You might be keeping her off a tiny bit too easily?! If she only had loose bowels and not dioreha if she's not too tired she might be fine for school. No one's going to catch sensitive tummy. But obviously if she's shattered or still has a dodgy tummy then best she stays at home.

Definitely nap/rest on bed time when the younger one naps!!

Hopefully the weather is getting a bit better & she's getting a bit of immunity.

It might be worth asking the school if they can improve hand washing. It doesn't stop them licking each other! But it might help. Same at home, especially straight after school. I'd stop after school snacks until you've been home to wash hands or make sure you've got some hand wipes ready! (Face cloth in a plastic bag if you want to be more Environmentally friendly)!.

Best of luck & fingers crossed for a full nights sleep tonight!

Thanks everyone - I know it's just something we need to get through.

Yes she did go to nursery but missed a lot age 2.5-3.5 due to covid - I was high risk and pregnant before the vaccines so she was at home for quite a few months.

I've also now got a one year old who is in her first months at nursery so they just pass things back and forth to each other too. And to us!

She already has daily vitamins. She does have food allergies, eczema and asthma so is a sensitive person anyway.

I'll look into the Sambucol - I've not heard of that before.

Aaaaaand my 1yo has just come home from nursery with a fever.

I feel like I'm in some sort of farce. How does anyone cope without a nanny? I'm self employed so I do have flexibility but ultimately I'm just not able to work enough to make enough money because of this (we can't afford a nanny)

Its rubbish isn't it.

In one year DD had...
A cold (as in constantly streaming nose, cough etc, not a sniffle)- 1 day off
Scarlet Fever- 2 days off
Stomach bug- 6 days off
Impetigo- four days off (due to exclusion period of 48hrs after ABs. She wasn't unwell as such)

I just thanked my lucky stars both had chicken pox before the eldest started school! She was off preschool for 2 weeks with that...

It is awful for the first few years. I'm going to be working until 3 tonight to make up for losing the day looking after a poorly DC.

I have a DD at nursery and it has been a nightmare so far. Hoping we’ll get most illnesses out of the way before school but that’s probably wishful thinking. She’s had a cold every single week, HFMD, a stomach bug, impetigo. The week after Christmas she was finally illness free, it was wonderful to see her so happy and relaxed rather than worn down. Luckily I’m a SAHM but I really don’t know how working parents cope with all the time off, must be a nightmare!
