Reception friendships

Not sure if this is the right board but just after some small children friendship advice! My DS is in reception. He’s sensible in nature and quite calm but not outgoing. There is a boy who has been struggling a bit with friendships and the teacher has encouraged him to play with my DS but now he won’t leave him alone. When I pick my DS up from school the other boy is constantly in his face and at parties he tries to drag my DS off when he’s playing with other children. He says he tries to play with others but the other boy won’t let him: What can I do? I’m worried my DS might get annoyed and push the other boy if he gets too irritated.

My DD has a friend like this. I asked the school to keep them apart and it's working well

Talk to his class teacher.

The teacher encouraged it though. Can I ask her to discourage it? I dont want to exclude him but might be better shared out a bit. @scootalooser how did they keep them apart?

Speak to you sons teacher and explain the impact on him. The teacher will understand but probably isn't aware it is a problem at the moment.

You definitely can! And should.

We are a 3 form entry school so they are in different classes and if the TAs and teachers see the friend constantly bothering DD or trying to disrupt her play they intervene.

Thanks I’ll mention it then. It’s a small class so hard to mix them up I think.
