6yo won't get up to use toilet at night

6yo bed wets but is awake sitting up when she does it.

Sometimes more than once in a night. We've followed all the advice about cutting out juice, no drinks after dinner, big wee before bed. Lifted as an experiment which didn't help.

All the advice I see online is about bed wetting when asleep but she is awake and sitting up when she does it. She doesn't say much but has mentioned it's too dark. She has two night lights, one on each side of the bed, and a torch positioned next to one of the night lights where she can see it. She used it the first night she had it and we gave her lots of praise but she hasn't used it since .

No idea where to go with this as she just clams up and says "I don't know" any time I try to ask what stops her from getting up or if there's anything I can do to make it easier for her.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I'm pretty sure she is properly awake because she's sitting up when she wees (it's usually half on her pillow where she's sat up, not where it would be if she was lying down iyswim).

She's gone to bed this evening with the hall and toilet lights left on, and we've made a reward chart she gets to colour in for each time she gets up and goes to the toilet at night. She's already been up 10 mins after going to bed but I'm ok with that if it helps her to get used to the idea of going.

Lots of chats about how it's ok to come and get me if she needs to, I'm totally ok with getting up to go to the loo with her if it doesn't involve changing wet sheets!

Fingers crossed!

@Dadtotwofs

We have LED sensor lights in both kids bedrooms, on the landing and in the bathroom. No lights left on over night but they have lights when they need them, stopped bed wetting and the shooting for someone to take them to the toilet within days
Definitely going to look these up, thanks!

I'd also recommend leaving a light on. Both of my kids hate the dark.

I'll be honest, even as an adult I'd sooner go to bed with the landing light left on. I've woken up in a panic if it's too dark sometimes.

My son used to be so afraid of the dark that he did this. We used to leave hall lights and bathroom light on all night. Then got dimmers and slowly spent months lowering lights.

Eventually got a kids Alexa dot for his room and a smart light for hall and he sleeps with hall light off now but says "Alexa turn on the light" before he gets out of bed for a Pee and "Alexa turn off the light" when he is back in bed.

Our washable sheets are "Brolly Sheets". Not at all rustly and you can pick nice colours/patterns if she likes that. And just got 2 - one on and one spare in case the other is in the wash.

My 12yo still sleeps with a lamp on every night and 9yo is also a bit nervous of the dark.

I remember seeing all sorts in the shadows as well when I was wee. I'm mostly ok with it now. ☺️

Put pull ups back on her , she may be sensitive but i would explain to her it's only until she can go to the toilet at night .
Could be a medical reason and she's embarrassed.
