Teething.. what helped the most?

My poor little guy is really suffering, he's 4 months. We've tried those sachets, baby bonjela, teething toy / mit, dummy cooled in the fridge and Calpol when he's particularly bad.

Nothing seems to help much at all.

Is there anything you swear by for a teething baby?

Nurofen is better than calpol. From 5 months you can use anbesol liquid (buy it over the counter at pharmacy). The only thing that proves any pain relief in those sachets is the sugar so you may as well give a teaspoon of caster sugar.

Same as PP, nurofen and anbesol are what works here!

As above, nurofen/baby ibuprofen always worked better for ours!

RebeccaCloud9 · 05/03/2022 19:59

If you haven't tried anbesol then that is what you need. It 100% does the job and doesn't slide off like bonjela.

RebeccaCloud9 · 05/03/2022 20:00

Ah, didn't know about the age limit on anbesol. Mine were v late teethers! Well, not too long until you can use it.

Medication. I wouldn’t go through that much tooth pain without medication and I didn’t expect my babies to either. Teeth move in fits and starts so you don’t need to give it back to back usually.

ReefRay · 05/03/2022 20:03

Ashton and Parsons gel - comes with a brush for you to rub it in. Also if baby has a habit of putting a muslin cloth in their mouth (like mine is) dampen it and stick it in the freezer for a bit. Doesn't last forever but the cool-ness of it keeps him quiet for half an hour whilst the nurofen kicks in!

VerandaSanta · 05/03/2022 20:04

Nurofen for baby.
Wine for you.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 05/03/2022 20:05

Gin.

For me not baby!

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 05/03/2022 20:05

Dentanox gel was good. On the dummy

Bunnybunny1 · 05/03/2022 20:07

Nurofen and calpol. Every 4 hours. Teething granules.

samthebordercollie · 05/03/2022 20:14

A faith healer worked for my DS. I live in rural France and after 11 months of DS waking every night I took him to the faith healer who rubbed some eau de vie on his gums and after that no problem. Except that DS is now a teenager and horrible.

Surgarblossom · 05/03/2022 20:34

Neurofen it's ant inflammatory which helps the swelling on the gums. It's better than calpol for teething purposes.

tothemoonandbackbuses · 05/03/2022 20:36

Their fathers whisky rubbed on the gums. Anbesol is 90 odd % alcohol and whisky is much cheaper

LittleOwl153 · 05/03/2022 22:11

Anbesol liquid. Talk to your pharmacist.

JSG55 · 05/03/2022 22:20

Another vote for anbesol liquid

And the rest is the pain killer lidocaine. It’s the lidocaine which provides the pain relief.
tothemoonandbackbuses · 06/03/2022 12:31

I’ve found the whisky alone to be very effective.

You're buying the wrong whiskey! WinkGrin
