Bottoms with loose waist bands for 3 year old with eczema

Hi everyone,

Hoping someone who has been through this can help out!

My DD is a very tall 3 year old (nearly 110cm), and typically in 5-6 year old leggings. She has eczema which is under control but I’m finding most of her bottoms have quite tight waist bands / lots of sewing / gathering around the waist which irritates her skin.

I was wondering which brands seemed to be slacker? Anyone been through similar and found a brand which is good for sensitive skin around the stomach?

Thanks in advance!
I guess the next option is to loosen them myself and just add in extra elastic but I was hoping some wise people on here could help.

Thanks 😊

A cotton vest tucked in helps

teateaandcoffee · 05/03/2022 10:18

@5zeds I hadn’t thought of that thank you

Maxomorra trousers have a wide waistband rather than elastic which might work, come in bright colours and patterns

I’d be looking at jersey pants from small businesses, or as a pp said maxomorra, Duns etc. like this kind of thing - biddyandbear.com/collections/harem-pants-and-leggings. And if you contacted them to change width/ length sizing around many small sellers like this will be happy to (this lady is very lovely by the way!)

Have you had a look at the eczema society boards? I think they recommend some clothes - also just Google eczema and kids clothes and shops like happy skin will come up

Those hareem pants look ideal thanks,
I think that would be the key, having a wide waistband instead of a thin elastic one.
I did get some nice hareem pants for her for summer but they weren’t 100% cotton, I do try to get 100% cotton for everything but find bottoms harder to source than tops.

Thank you for recommendations, if anyone has any small sellers they can recommend that would be great, Should I be looking on Etsy?

At the moment I mainly buy from Next and M&S so haven’t really ventured into smaller businesses for clothes, so I’m a bit clueless (other than eczema specific scratch mits / sleeves).

@Luredbyapomegranate
Do I have to be a member to access the boards?

A local maker to me is equally awesome, she does lovely prints. I get max clothes in the Babi pur sales. www.babipur.co.uk/maxomorra-clothing/all-maxomorra/trousers.html?am_on_sale=1

Duns are great. We had to back to onesies every now and again w bad flairs

@dogschewbones and @Jamaicatheyhaveabobsledteam thanks for the tips!
Feeling a little less hopeless now 😁

We go with dungarees. No waistband at all. Just get ones with a bit of stretch so they can wriggle the straps on and off without fiddling with buttons

teateaandcoffee · 05/03/2022 19:55

@SilenceOfThePrams my husband suggested this too, which is a great idea, the only thing I worry about is her being able to undo them in time to get on the toilet. That’s the only thing that puts me off as she takes herself to the loo now (usually last minute, running and shouting I need a weeeeee haha).

Don’t think so. You probably have to register

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/03/2022 09:30

100% soft cotton is key
And moisturising day and night

If you just Google eczema kids clothes, quite a few sites will come up

teateaandcoffee · 06/03/2022 20:39

Thanks for all the suggestions, I’ve actually just decided to make some myself, I’ve found a pattern online
which has a lovely wide waist band, looks ideal and like what pp have suggested. I’ve ordered some organic jersey cotton, so going to have a crack at it. It would be great if it goes well as we get through trousers so quickly, she’s very active, so if it works out I’ll be saving money for a few years!
