Advice please!!!

I am a mum of a 6 yr old DD who has Down Syndrome. A friend approached my last summer to ask if I was interested in being considered for a nursery position working with her child who also has DS. I went for the interview, got the job and now work 6 hours a week to cover statemented support. This position will finish in July as the child will move up to school.

It was mentioned that while I was working in the nursery setting I could work through an NVQ2. Did all the paperwork and "interview" questions online and the course providers have come back to me and suggested I work for the NVQ3 straight away considering my expereince with my own children, age and school qualifications from the year dot!

I thought why not, but can you see any down sides to this by skipping out the NVQ2 completely? TBH I don't really know what I am going to do after this position has come to an end, the nursery are more than happy for me to go back on a voluntary basis while I finish the course...but what then?

OK .....talking as a college lecturer who teaches on NVQs. It's not at all uncommon for students to go straight onto level 3 qualifications.

An NVQ 2 is about the same level as GCSEs. NVQ 3 is A level or equivalent. If you've got GCSEs already there's no reason you should need to do the level 2. Go ahead and do the level 3. You'll be fine.

Thanks slug! LOL...I haven't got GCSEs...I am back to the year dot of O'level days!!I was more concerned that I would be missing out on issues in level 2 that aren't covered in level 3 IYSWIM. I also wondered if employers would expect level 3 applicants to have also done level 2 previously but if that is not the case then yes- I may as well just bite the bullet and go for it. Hopefully, if I am sucessful, it will give me more opportunities with what I can actually do once my placement is finished.

Thank you once again for the reply!

I've got straight onto level three as a childminder. I'd go for it.
