What's wrong with my almost 3yo?

Ds is 3 in 2 months and for the past week or so is extremely clingy and whinging and crying. He had to be picked up early 3 times this week from nursery. He only goes 3 mornings a week and settled in fine in Jan but this week I was called to pick him up early as he was crying throughout the session. He hugged me when he saw me but when I took him home, he has been pretty much the same as in nursery. Nursery is very transparent, attentive and communicates well. He has always been quite difficult and goes along as long as it's something he likes. Language is delayed but he has words. His listening is good, understanding is ok. Is there something I should be worried about or do you think he is about to come down with a bug or something and this the early sign? I'm at the end of my tether and was so looking forward to having a few hours off in the mornings to actually run some errands.

My instinct reading this was illness. My little one was the same - whiny and upset, turned out it was Covid..!

Putting my psychic hat on, I vote COVID, chicken pox or hand foot & mouth.

Thank you for your responses. He can be quite difficult in general but he loved nursery and I was surprised the behaviour continued when he got home after picking him early which the awful behaviour continued all throughout the evening where he woke up crying. He has plenty of sleep so he isn't tired and has a good breakfast so he isn't hungry when he goes in to nursery as when they both combine, it's lethal. So I'll watch out for the bugs/viruses.

Poor thing. it sounds like he's ill

Ear infection?

seafrog · 04/03/2022 21:18

I've done a lft test and it came back negative and his temperature is 37.1 where it's normally 36.6. I've given him a dose of calpol just to see if it's going to make a difference and he is back to his normal self again harassing the robot cleaner. The problem is, he hasn't got enough vocabulary to tell me what's bothering him . I'll look out for Ear infection, chicken pox as well as hand foot and mouth and search for the early signs for it as I'm expecting something like this to happen as it's the first time he has been in a nursery environment. Thank you for commenting everyone, I really appreciate it.

Just try to remember it's good for them to get childhood illnesses out of the way even if they are pain beforehand and then it's horrible seeing them unwell

itscomplicatedlife · 05/03/2022 16:52

Likely to be illness or also and could be a developmental leap as well always is with mine x x

itscomplicatedlife · 05/03/2022 16:53

Usually if mines temp is close to 37 something is brewing, calpol could quickly rule it out if it works it's something brewing if not could be a leap in development due to both

Hellocatshome · 05/03/2022 16:56

Could be illness, could be a developmental leap, could be he's worried about something or somethings changed. Just let him be clingy, give him all the cuddles and attention he needs, the errands can wait. This too will pass.
