Please advise me on nappy wraps

I am using terries squares and have been using Motherease Airflow wraps so far. I need the next size up and while looking for my Airflows, have been a bit tempted by Totsbots rainbow and those Nature baby wraps. So cute.
But my questions are:

  1. how are the fleecey things waterproof? Are they OK over terries and do they make the baby's bum a lot bigger than an airflow?
  2. Airflow were sold into to me as being the most reliable. Will I be disppointed if I change to one of the others.
Please help!

Airflow really are the most reliable, yes fleece will be bulkier IME. Why don't you treat yourself to some bamboo terries instead - less bulky

juuule · 03/01/2008 20:30

I found the Motherease wraps the most reliable and long-lasting.

motherease ariflow here too - very bored of the patterns now we've had them in small, medium and large. when will they learn that we need a change?!

Always airflow.

I have me and nature babies and they've both been 100% reliable for me so far but then I don't have terries. I do like my leopard print nature babies wrap, I bought them in 2 sizes! Got a bit sick of ME after a while. Or you could take a look at lovebums which have fleece cuffs, I use mine at night, it's fab, you can design your own.

I think the tots fleece wraps intended for night use, that's what most people on here use them for I think. Very nice, but you have to buy them quite big to fit over a well padded night nappy (I have never managed this!).

Airflow are the most reliable for most people who try them out IME. Yes their patterns are terribly dull now and I can see why you might be tempted to try something different.

Fleece wraps work because fleece is hydrophobic - i.e. it repels water. This is why people use fleece liners - water will not stick to them, it will pass through to a less hydrophobic layer (in this case the nappy as skin is also hydrophobic). Fleece wraps are generally used at night time as they are not waterporrf like PUL, if you baby were to sit on the floor for a while in a realtively wet nappy you would get a wet patch on your carpet. The main benefit is that they are breatheable - but then so is the airflow. They are a lot more bulky than PUL wraps - Totsbots recommend them for night use or summer use as a pair of fleecy shorts. Fleece will be fine over a terry nappy - as a rule you will need a bigger size than you are used to buying in aorflows as they are smaller fiting and less stretchy.

You may well get on well with nature babies -some people find them quite good. Maybe buy one to try

at appalling typos!

Airflow or rikkis or onelife.

I have tried most wraps and these are def the best.

FlameNFurter · 03/01/2008 22:14

Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

Wool is fabulous. I don't rate tots fleece much other than their red ones (different type of fleece or something)

If using PUL then yup, airflow is definitely the most reliable. Weenotions do a similar style too.

Octo · 03/01/2008 22:21

Agree with flame but personally don't like the damp effect with wool.

fruitscone · 04/01/2008 08:30

Thank you all so much - you have convinced me to get more Airflows! CarGirl - can't really justify changing to bamboo!
Ta again.

I would buy one Nature Babies and give it a try, I think they are comparable with an airflow but maybe not quite in the lifespan, DDs Nature babies wraps had to be binned after use and were not relaible to pass on to another child, that said she had used them from birth to 18 months old (was a large baby when born then gradualy dropped to the 5th centile) so she had had a LOT of wear out of them!

Nappyzone · 04/01/2008 11:02

I like my nature babies wrap and it works well for me and i considered it good value - i had an airflow which neverlet me down but then it hardly got hammered and now i also have a weenotions wrap which although quite high in the rise for my liking and more pricey is really fab and my fave - nice and thick and im easily lured by nice patterns....

CarGirl · 04/01/2008 16:29

just get a few bamboo to fit under clothes that are too tight with a terry nappy on, the bamboo squares are very reasonably priced.

fruitscone · 05/01/2008 12:40

GarGirl - good plan. I hadn't thought of getting just a few because I'm a peabrain these days post-baby! Where can I buy bamboo squares - have tried a few websites and not seen any. But I do remember seeing them when I ordered my original ones...so I am confused.
