Co sleeping in hospital

So DS is being kept in overnight (he's 7 months) and we've been put in a room with a big cot and a tiny single bed for me.

I usually co sleep at home as I breastfeed and its the best way for us both to get sleep.

Has anyone co slept in hospital before? Will I get told off?

Thanks guys,

I could just be overthinking it but I'm currently too scared to sleep incase a nurse comes in and I get wrong haha.

I did when ds was 18 months.
The nurse lowered the cot/bed and pushed the small parent bed up so we basically co-slept.
In the end ds slept draped over me anyway!

Oh bless you, I hope you're both home soon.

My DS was in hospital at 4 weeks old and we were co sleeping at the time.
I BF him on the chair most of the night but did put him in his bed alone when he slept. I was a bit too scared to get in with him!

The nurses were doing so many checks we didn't get much sleep anyway.

@OutsideVoice oooh that's a good idea actually, thank you!!

We got given a single bed. I didn't do sleep SS such, but it helped to be able to get into bed and cuddle him to sleep when necessary. Hope he's better and home soon

You're the mother, do as you please.

5 years ago I was told no by the nurses when my middle one was admitted. Told there was too much risk of baby rolling out of single bed. It was a nightmare.

@LuckyWithMyLot 4 weeks? That's tiny bless you all! Thank you, hopefully should be discharged in the morning. Yeah I have a sneaky suspicion we won't sleep much anyways haha!

@SleepingStandingUp thank you! Yes that's what I'm doing now, I'm not even sure I'll be able to fall asleep haha!

@Aquamarine1029 true, however I remember when I gave birth on the ward being told several times they had a no co sleeping policy :( although I suppose they can't exactly physically stop me

@MelCat that's what I have a feeling they'd say... hoping if I do the suggestion up thread of pushing the cot up against the side maybe they won't have as much of an issue

We put the sides up and built a pillow form. He was 1ish and on regular obs though

When my baby was in the hospital I didn't try, it was such a restless night though. Obviously she was uncomfortable and crying for me a lot so I was getting up to breastfeed constantly and her wires and things would get loose everytime I nursed which would set the alarms off and wake her up further. I'm not sure how cosleeping would have worked with all her tubes but if I had to do it again I would certainly try. When she woke up the next day she smiled at me and I felt like everything was going to be ok. Good luck OP.

My local hospital positively encourage it.

RichTeaRichTea · 28/02/2022 05:42

Mine was 1yo and for the first couple of nights was too unwell to move from the cot/monitors, but when there was improvement ended up in the single bed with me - it was up against the wall so baby went on the wall side. But with regular obs there wasn’t much sleeping anyway as others have said!

I hope you got some sleep. I co-slept in a one if those tiny fold out beds when my oldest was 8 months old and admitted to hospital with bronchiolitis. The nurses offered to get us a bigger bed but we were already dozing in the tiny bed so stuck with it.
