Baby Sick

DD (nearly 7mo) had yoghurt with a bit of peanut butter mixed in for breakfast. She's since had a BF and just sicked up a little bit and it stinks of proper sick. Is that to be expected when starting solids or a sign that something hasn't agreed with her?

Is this the first time that you introduced solids?
If not, what do you give normally?

EdithGrantham · 27/02/2022 10:51

No, she's had various stuff already, mostly veg. She has had cheese as well a couple of times but this was a first for the yoghurt.

I wouldn't worry at this stage. The smell is just because it's food.i would think most likely is a sicky burp, milk on top of food.
Dd2 is a bit like this.

Thanks! It's the first time any of her excretions have been more grown up and I'm not loving it 🤣 I think I'd rather deal with proper poo than the smell of even a tiny bit of sick!

@EdithGrantham same. Although I do think you sort of get used to it with your own. I do still struggle with sick bugs though. The volume of it and its ability to travel so far.

Justkeeppedaling · 27/02/2022 11:09

Both poo and sick change when you introduce food to your baby. It becomes like "proper" poo and sick.
It was a surprise to me too - I hadn't really thought about it.

I don't live in the UK. Advice here is to indeed introduce peanutbutter early to reduce allergies, but to start with cow milk products closer to one year of age. Yoghurt can be introduced from 8 months onwards in small amounts when using the non fullfat version. Apparently the amount of protein in cow milk is hard on the kidneys. I would simply try peanut butter and yoghurt separately and see how your DD responds...

It is true that the smell changes when they start eating more like us grown ups...

EdithGrantham · 27/02/2022 11:23

Thanks all,I was expecting poo to change and maybe the consistency of sick but not the smell, not sure why!

It's the second time she's had peanut butter but yes I'll try yoghurt on its own next time and if it's the only thing she "reacts" to I'll stick to more processed/cooked forms of dairy I think.

Yes it's normal
My little one will still spit up a mouthful occasionally at 8.5 months now and it stinks if it's shortly after food

LIZS · 27/02/2022 11:45

Yes babies puke, a lot ime. Is peanut butter ok for under 1s though? Thought nuts were a no-no due to allergy risk.

jupitermars1345 · 27/02/2022 11:57

Peanut butter is fine
It's whole nuts due to choking risk

EdithGrantham · 27/02/2022 14:22

Advice now is to introduce allergens earlier and then keep them up to lower risk of an allergy developing, I have been watching her like a hawk every time she has anything that could cause an allergic reaction!

Just popping back to give an update, DD had yoghurt again on Friday and developed a rash all over her tummy and chest, she had a few other things but nothing I would think was an allergen/hasn't had before.

She also had something with cheese in yesterday and had the most awful wind overnight which was obviously uncomfortable for her as she kept waking up crying and wouldn't settle until she'd done a huge trump! She's had this before but I hadn't been tracking whether it was linked to any food particular as I just assumed it was just linked to her starting solids in general.

Going to ring the drs tomorrow to see if I can get some advice.
