Beco carrier for newborn??

Hi, I have been given a baby carrier, it’s a few years old so I’m unsure of the actual model but I know it’s a beco originally purchased about 5 years ago. It’s still in great condition and has a newborn insert with it.

We live on a farm so I was planning on using it asap to be able to take my dd out without worrying about getting a pram across uneven ground. However the midwife told me that it’s unsuitable as baby will be too upright? She told me to get a sling one instead, but as far as I can see the sling ones also have baby fairly upright.
Just wondering peoples thoughts, has anyone used this sort of carrier from birth?
My dd is six days old, 7.3lbs. I won’t have her in it for more than half an hour absolute max

Hi, I'm a trained babywearing consultant. Your carrier will be fine if used correctly with the newborn insert. Baby should be fully upright, legs in a froggy position (knees higher than bottom) and close enough to kiss, with a clear airway (so no covering the head with carrier hood etc). There is no time limit on carrying as long as you are responsive to baby's needs (feeds and nappies).
Midwives are not routinely trained in babywearing! And many give unsafe advice. If she persists, politely ask her what babywearing or sling training she has undertaken.

Totally fine. I had a Beco and it was brilliant. Didn't have the newborn insert so my DC were 8 weeks before they were big enough to be in it but used it with both from then till about 3.5 years.

Have you got a sling library near you? I would recommend these so much as everyone gets on with different types. I was scared of wraps with my first but with my second used a stretchy bamboo wrap for the first 4 months and she and I loved it. I love the structured carriers later on, but a stretchy is so comfy when they are in the third trimester and she slept like a dream in in :) I used a Hana wrap but there are loads of types around. The sling library near here also will give advice on slings we already have so you could take baby an sling down and they help adjust it so it fits best which was amazing!

Thank you all for your help!
@AnnaBegins that’s really reassuring thank you. I’ve felt so restricted to being inside, I can feel abit more confident to have a wander round now

As others have said it will be fine so long as you follow the instructions which come with it. I carried our daughter for hours whilst walking our dogs when she was a newborn, and generally just getting out of the house - it's become even more fun now she can face outwards and see the world too! Enjoy!
