Hello, I'm a graphic design student creating a project about understanding dyslexia in young people and I was hoping to collect some research from parents of children with dyslexia. I wanted get some information about your experiences as parents supporting dyslexic children and what kind of information you were told or given to help understand what dyslexia was and how you could help your child/children.

I would greatly appreciate any response as it would be a big help.Smile

We were given no information, and the only support was

  1. an app recommendation to support dd in training her brain around her specific area of difficulty (given by the Ed psychologist who assessed)
  2. a laptop to use in class, arranged reluctantly by school after multiple meetings and requests for support. DD was diagnosed privately at 13 as school refused to screen because she was in top sets (but not in the top half of the set) so “managing well”. On assessment she was found to have a moderate dyslexia, masked by a gifted level IQ. School are reluctant to support her to reach her potential and are more concerned that she “isn’t struggling”

As above, you can be clever and dyslexic. Meeting age related milestones doesn't always mean meeting your potential.

Dyslexia is a spectrum composed of many different threads. Not everyone will experience dyslexia in the same way
