When did your baby start to crawl?

Hi! DD is 8 months and no where near crawling any time soon. I try to persuade her with toys etc however she still does the 'frustrated swimmer' pose.

What age were your babies?

My 8 month old is still no were near crawling. He will slightly try to pull his knees under him but nothing that resembles a crawling stance.

@CoodleMoodle their agility isn't linked to when they crawled or walked.

No, I'm sure it isn't. But in my case DD was more content to sit and play with toys, whereas DS was desperate to get moving, and they're still like that now. DD was focusing on her hand eye coordination, fine motor skills, etc. That's just her, and she's really good at things like that now. DS is fine with that stuff too, but he's better physically and doesn't sit still.

They're all different, is what I was trying to say. And ime it makes no difference when they learn to walk, seeing as both of mine did it at the same age. DD was just not interested in crawling at all, especially once she was up on her feet.

15 months, walked at 18 months, sprinting like an Olympic athlete at 21 months.

Dd1 - 10 months
Dd2 - 5 months
Dd3 - 7 months

All walked just before their first birthday

My dd used to belly shuffle backwards...yes backwards. It was really strange to watch. She showed no signs of crawling then one day I got on all fours woth her favourite toy and out of nowhere started to crawl. I wasn't expecting it at all. I was trying ro get her shuffle forwards instead of backwards. My niece however never crawled at all and at 11 months started walking. They will all learn at different speeds. I wouldn't worry.

6 months but I was amazed because she absolutely hated tummy time from birth and would always face plant in tears whilst other babies from mothers group happily showed off their superior neck strength.

Then out of nowhere she was crawling rapidly, standing and cruising along furniture. She's 10 months now and not walking unassisted but close. My nephew on the other hand was 1 before he crawled. Much proffered toys being bought to him. My cousins baby was walking unassisted at 4 months. I wouldn't believe it had I not seen it with my own eyes..

My point is they're all different and they'll get there in their own time. Doctor can reassure you at vaccinations if you're genuinely worried it's a physical problem with gross motor skills.

First one 5 months. Second one 8 months. First one walked at 10 months. Second didn't walk until 14 months. They are all so different

Ishouldaknownbetter · 24/02/2022 20:09

Don't worry about crawling, it's not important. I have never seen adults crawling, only out of the pub at closing time.

Neurodiversitydoctor · 24/02/2022 20:10

DS- 7m walked at 11m
Dd 9m, walked at 13m

She is just more laid back DS is incredibly driven.

Buttercupmoon · 24/02/2022 20:14

6 months

Timeturnerplease · 24/02/2022 20:37

DD1 didn’t crawl. Pulled up to cruise at 10m, walked at 11m.

However, I wouldn’t necessarily echo the sentiments of enjoying your immobile baby. DD1 DETESTED being stuck in one place and would shout and moan constantly unless being pushed in a buggy or carried on a hip. DD2 is 6mo, been sitting unaided for a month and already started the grumbling.

So if you’re asking the question because you’ve got a frustrated LO too, then sympathy. Bloody awful time.

YingMei · 24/02/2022 20:39

DD 8 months. DS never did. He bum shuffled from 10 months then just got up and walked at 14 months. They're all different

HogDogKetchup · 24/02/2022 20:47

My first was 6m. My second is approaching 7m and keeps lifting his bottom but nothing more.

EmmaInParis · 24/02/2022 20:51

Not until 10 months and not with any enthusiasm til about 12 months. Nearly 13 now and isn’t massively bothered, just desperate to stand and walk (she was taking first steps around same time as first crawling)

RedRobyn2021 · 24/02/2022 20:53

She started commando crawling on her tummy at 9 months and then crawling with her tummy off the ground the day she turned 10 months.

At 8 months she was rolling and spinning herself to get about 😂

Try not to worry sounds normal to me!

Greentomatoes21 · 24/02/2022 21:23

'Frustrated swimmer' is actually a precursor to crawling...she's building up her muscles, she'll get there x

Chocomelon · 24/02/2022 21:44

My LO is 8m and not quite crawling but lots of younger babies we know are!
