9 month old still spitting up

Hi Everyone,

Our little boy has always been a bit of a pukey baby just after a feed but nothing too out of the ordinary I don’t think. This seemed to settle well for a while around the 5 months mark but then once he began rolling (6 months) & just generally becoming more active it’s back with a vengeance.

Weaning has been going well & his eating routine is generally as below:

6.30/7 am wake & 8oz bottle
9am - breakfast - usually porridge & banana
12 noon - lunch - eg sandwich/ pancake/ cheese or egg on toast followed by fruit or custard
3pm - 6 oz bottle but drinking less of this lately - maybe this needs to drop & be replaced by small snack?
5pm - dinner eg stew/ bolognese/ chicken & veg, possibly followed by fruit or custard
6.30/ 7pm - 8oz bottle before bed

The spitting up/ vomiting has really hit a peak these last few weeks with it happening after most bottles & meals, & often continuing on & off for a while after eg little bits of this mornings 9am porridge we’re still coming up just before lunch!

He’s generally in good form & sleeping well, he seems hungry for the bottles & feeds but occasionally he’s making moaning noises before spitting up so I feel like maybe it’s hurting or at least annoying him in some way.

I’m going to ring the GP tomorrow to discuss with them but wondering if anyone has any similar experience or advice?

Many thanks!

My DD was still spitting up until around 13 months sadly! Then on and off until she was walking.

I noticed it got a lot worse around 7 months and then again at 9 months.

My second DS carried on until he was 18 months old then it just suddenly seemed to stop. But he gained weight well and it didn't seem to bother him much.

Thanks @Vicky1989x & @TooMinty for your replies.

It doesn’t seem to bother our LO too much either other than the recent moany noises but the laundry basket never seems to be empty 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

When you say it continued until 13 & 18 months do you mean just straight after milk & food or could it still happen a couple of hours later?

No, he usually waited a while to lull me into a false sense of security then I'd pick him up and he'd spew on my shoulder 😞

Exactly this 😂

I'd drop the mid afternoon bottle if he's not wanting it.

My son was a sicky baby partly reflux mostly CMPA. He'd be sick after any formula even the special stuff but he did keep it down better than normal formula.

He was still being sick after meals at 10 months. When he was about 1 he'd often puke in his bed after dinner.

He went through sooooooo many bibs. We used to put him in disposable bibs after every meal or bottle to catch it.

Weirdly he was never sick after a breastfeed.

Anyway, he did grow out of it around 18 months or so. Maybe a bit before.

my ds was the same.
really healthy, easy baby, fed well, put on weight, just was very spitty.
So much.
He is now 19!
I can't remember when it stopped but I remember him crawling at high speed and pausing to spit up then crawl on, so it went EVERYWHERE and he would crawl through it too.
definitely until he was properly walking.

We put him in a bib all the time, which would catch a lot of it, and save washing and clothes.

DS1 was so spitty / sicky and just seemed to have a very heightened gag reflex and would gag on foods even when 2 years +. It made eating out or snacking on the move really stressful. We couldn’t go anywhere without a tea towel at the ready to catch the vom if it came. He did grow out of it and age 2-3 was very infrequent and nothing much after that though I was always on edge… anecdotally it mainly seems to be boys (PP’s DD not withstanding!) and a mum friend of mine took her DS to a specialist who said something or other about a flap at top of gullet (I’m not medical professional Grin) sometimes being less well formed in boys than girls?? Sounds baloney but I’ll take it.
Anyway, he did grow out of it and hope yours will too.

Thanks everyone for your replies, spoke to GP this morning & she thinks he may have a touch of reflux so has recommended to give Infant Gaviscon a go for a couple of weeks to see if that helps settle things.

Bibs & muslins are our current go to to try to cut down on the laundry but it still just seems never ending… this too shall pass right?! 🤦🏻‍♀️

@steppemum I think we’re almost at crawling stage so your post has suddenly made me very grateful we don’t have any carpet downstairs 😂😂
