How to get rid of the bottle for a cup?

Hello, FTM here! My DS will be 1 in a few weeks and I'm trying to get advice on how to ditch the bottle and transition to a cup. He is formula fed and still has feeds for2 x nap time and bed time. Just looking for advice from anyone who has done it and how it went and what you did! Thank you. Smile

Good luck, it can be tricky if milk from a bottle is their comfort.
Keep offering a cup, my son likes the 360 cups.
There are also transition bottles you can get where the teat is like a sippy cup teat.
Sometimes they'll refuse other times they'll be happy to drink from a cup. Plenty of encouragement.

Normally I make changes gradually but with this I just got rid of the bottles and gave him a beaker with cow's milk. It was very simple.

You could introduce a beaker from now if you haven't already and use it for water in the day to make it a bit more gradual.

Good luck.

Does he drink water from a cup? Just put the milk in that and see how it goes? My eldest was a bit stubborn and she’d only accept the mam soft spouted transition cup initially. But I don’t think it’s at all uncommon to keep the bedtime bottle after 12 months. Purely anecdotal but amongst people I know around 18 months seems the more typical age to drop it. As long as teeth are brushed afterwards it isn’t a huge problem.

Yes, he drinks water from all different cups and happily does so. As a FTM I'm just nervous of how he will take it.

I put the bottles in the bin and gave DD a Munchkin 360 of milk with her breakfast and before bed & teeth brushing.
This was a couple of days after she turned 1 because I finished the last carton of formula.

I think it's always helpful to remember that from 1 he no longer needs milk. So if you ditch the bottle and offer cows milk in a cup, it's ok if he doesn't drink that much.

Make sure you offer water during the day. Try giving a yoghurt after meals and some cheese to keep the dairy up. Milk on their breakfast counts too.
