Could DS have something wrong with his ears?

I feel really stupid that I am just making this link now, when he is 3.5 years old!! Looking for opinions or personal experiences please.

When he was a baby, DS used to get really hysterically upset when other children near him cried, screeched, got loud and excited etc. It was a stressful phase to be honest but I had forgotten it. He got better I would say, around a year old ish.

He has always hated windy days. He gets very upset even now when it is windy outside. I have tried asking what makes him so upset but only yesterday has he had the language (I guess) to say it is because it is "really loud".

Finally, I noticed today when getting his jumper off before bath that he cried when the tight-ish jumper when over his ears. He said it hurt.

I am linking all of these things in my mind and wondering - could he have something wrong with his ears? Has anyone got any experience of this? Is there someone I should take him to (would it be GP or a specialist hearing centre?)

Crikey if he has got something wrong I will feel so guilty I haven't picked up on it before now 😩. Or is this stuff fairly "normal"?

Thank you :)

Could it maybe be a sensory sensitivity thing rather than an ear thing? Either way you mustn't feel bad!!

Don’t feel bad, it’s so hard to know with babies/toddlers! Maybe get him checked for glue ear? It can cause pressure in the ears I believe.

Thank you both.

@Foreverbaffled yes I always believed it to be sensory when younger. He is overall a sensitive boy too but then with the wind and clothing thing I'm doubting myself now!

@Vicky1989x thank you I may well do that. Is that a GP question?

Take him to the GP so they can look in his ears.

I would also consider buying him some war defenders so if he’s somewhere noisy he can block it a bit.

He could have Glue ear from a previous undetected infection that's causing pressure in his ears?

Hellocatshome · 24/02/2022 08:42

Take him to the GP in the first instance and go from there.

Getting upset in wind is very common. Teaching even secondary kids is harder work when it’s windy!

Thanks everyone, I will speak to the GP and see what they think!
