What to dress baby in for swimming class?

Hi

I’m taking my 4 month old to baby swim classes, I am really unsure what swim wear to buy him.

So if I buy a waterproof disposable nappy, would some baby swim shorts be suitable or a swim suit?
If a swim suit is more appropriate, does he just wear the nappy underneath or swim shorts and swim suit? (Also a vest type or one with arms and leg?)

Any recommendations of items?

Thanks so much

When I first took DS swimming he had a disposable nappy, then a neoprene nappy and a neoprene vest to keep some of the heat in. They get really cold really quickly when they're that little. I'll find a link to the type of thing I got

I'd recommend a swim suit as babies get cold quickly when swimming.
So yes swim nappy and then the suit on top. You can buy packs of the disposable swim nappies from almost all supermarkets. I found the huggies ones good when my son was a baby.

The pool you’re taking your baby swimming in may have criteria about what he is allowed to wear.

We’ve always used Huggies swim nappies and then a spash about happy nappy on top. The happy nappy isn’t actually a nappy-they’re neoprene swimming shorts. www.splashabout.com/baby-swimming/happy-nappy-products.html?cat=419

If the pool isn’t very warm you might want to get him a splash about wrap to wear on top of the other things, but if it’s a warm pool then the swim nappy and the happy nappy will be enough.

Swim nappies aren’t waterproof-the aim of them and the neoprene happy nappy is to contain any poo.

Have fun. Swimming was always my favourite class with my babies.

What's the temperature of the pool?

If warm then disposable swim nappy (boots or Huggies do them) then a neoprene swim short over the top.

If a slightly colder pool then perhaps a swim vest in addition to the above too.

Also note you can dry out the disposable nappies (as long as they haven't pooed in them) and reuse.

Best to ask the company that's delivering the lesson what the guidelines are. A disposable swim nappy isn't waterproof, it only holds poo (and with that in mind don't put baby in it until you are in the changing rooms before the lesson!!) They'll need something that's tight around the waist and legs on top of it. We used a Splashabout wetsuit when she was small, and then a Splashabout neoprene 'happy nappy' with normal swimsuit on top.

My baby wears these for swimming, he's 5.5 months! Keeps him cosy.
