Can anyone help with my poorly 3 week old

Hi everyone
Just wondering if anyone has experienced what i’m going through as i’m abit in the dark.
Baby is 3 weeks old and has been bottle fed since birth with cow and gate just the usual formula (not comfort milk or anything). She’s been fine with it no problems but yesterday at 4pm started screaming and was inconsolable, trapped wind, burping/trumping then it was hurting her. She brings back up on average one feed a day and its projectile. Remained this way overnight so we went to GP this morning who said he wanted her reviewing at hospital. Dr at the hospital thought she was constipated (she last had a poo on Saturday lunchtime, today is monday) so gave her a suppository and she filled 2 nappies half hour later. Baby was back to normal then so they discharged us. As soon as we got home and gave her a feed she started screaming in pain again same as yesterday so we brought her back to hospital. I’ve asked about cows milk allergy cos my first baby had this but as it’s night time they can’t get any formula from the pharmacy and want to rule other things out too first. They’re treating her now for reflux, and i’m praying it works as she has been in agony and it’s heartbreaking to see.
I don’t know what I’m asking really, maybe if anyone has any stories of reflux and how their little one presented symptom wise and if the gavison helped? We’re staying in hospital tonight and i’m feeling pretty desperate, they’ve given baby calpol to try manage pain and she’s asleep at the moment. We’re just waiting for a room.
Thank you everyone

Gaviscon and Infacol have different success results for each baby.
It is trial and error unfortunately.

Could a teaspoon of fresh orange juice help? (Only if the poo is very
Solid or baby goes days without producing one.)
The HV recommended this.

Experimenting with milk is also something the HV should have great
Knowledge of.

P.s Feed her very slowly, and make sure the teat is full with the milk so that no air is collecting in the teat.
Wind her after she has drunk some, continue, then wind properly at the end.
Keep her Upright after the feed as long as possible (half hour)

Sounds incredibly stressful for you OP, and I hope you manage some snatches of sleep tonight. In my experience Gaviscon can be quite constipating for babies so I would be concerned about it worsening things in that respect. Having had a baby with CMPA myself, it does sound familiar, and I would really push for a trial of some appropriately prescribed milk tomorrow once the pharmacy opens. I would also try to feed little and often using paced bottle feeding (worth a google) if you can as the larger feeds often make reflux worse.

Keep us updated OP and hope you get some answers soon.

DD has silent reflux, diagnosed at 5 weeks. Its horrible.

It came on very suddenly. She was fine one day and the next she was really unsettled and miserable. Fussed over feeding and struggled to sleep.
GP prescribed prescription formula but she worsened so much in 12 hours that we were seen at the hospital by a paediatrician who gave us infant Gaviscon.
For a few weeks this and the milk seemed to help.
But.
It made her stuipdly constipated. Her poo was the consistency of play doh and she was uncomfortable.
The reflux inproved for a few weeks but again suddenly got 100 times worse.
Projectile vomiting, crying during feeds, random screaming, you could even ear her swallowing down the acid.
GP referred us to paediatric A&E and she was prescribed Omeprazole.

It is the wonder drug.

Since being on it she is a different baby. Still has Gaviscon but half a sachet per feed. Poo is normal.
Also still on prescription formula as others dont agree with her.
We use anti-colic bottles.
Wind after every ounce and keep her upriggt for 30mins after feeding which helps.

Its hugely stressful so I really hope you get things sorted.

Thank you all.
She’s just had a feed with gavison and brought it all back up 10 mins later so they’ve given me a bottle of SMA to try for the next feed but have said the fact she has brought it back points more towards the cows milk. I’ve said to them my gut instinct is telling me CMPA as i’ve been through it with my son so i’m going to push them to get some prescribed and then we can trial it tomorrow. Its awful being in hospital I’m separated from my husband and son but I don’t want to leave til we are sorted.
I wasn’t convinced she was constipated tbh in the first place, she has only ever gone to the toilet every 2/3 days and its never seemed to cause her an issue. She did do a big poo after the suppository but i suppose she was always going to if they gave her that. Her nappies have always been loose too, literally like chicken korma in consistency and colour! Its not like she has been passing hard poo. I agree about omeprazole i had it during pregnancy it changed my life for those last few weeks!
Thank you everyone I appreciate your advice

Just an update - the SMA didn’t settle her she was still screaming in pain. Lovely doctor just been and prescribed her pepti junior milk which my son had, a thickener and also omeprazole. He wants to see her in clinic in 2 months. Praying this helps her! For those of you who switched to prescription formula how quickly did you see an improvement in your babies?

I'm.not convinced DD has CMPA but when trying to switch her off of it she was sick after 2 ounces of a new milk.
When she first went on it she also started Gaviscon, it took a couple of feeds before we realised she wasn't uncomfortable.
Glad you're getting somewhere!
