DS sick today - can he still go to nursery?

My DS (18 months) has been fine all day and eating well, but was suddenly sick tonight straight after having his bedtime milk. He was fine again straight afterwards and went to sleep. Are toddlers ever sick once as an isolated incident or is it likely to be a bug? He’s due in nursery tomorrow - if he seems okay in the morning would you take him in or keep him home just in case?

I'd keep him home if he's not usually the sort of boy who sicks up his milk for no reason.

What are your nurseries rules? Mine would want them off 48 hours after sickness. My 2 year old twice has been sick just once and then this has turned into the rest of the family having stomach bugs.

I think in most cases it's required to keep them off for 48 hours.

I hope he feels better soon.

Keep him home.

In the last couple of weeks all the toddlers i know have had a temperature/ lethargic/ generally unhappy big, which started with random vomit.

FurryGrowler · 21/02/2022 22:02

48 hours since last episode of sickness

Ex nursery manager here ... please do adhere to this and if it is a bug, these things spread like wildfire, they really do.

Hope little one is okay.

48 hours at my nursery too.

Technically, you should keep him off 48 hours post vom. It’s a tough call. My DD2 sometimes randomly vomits. No rhyme nor reason & she’s not ill. She’ll be perfectly normal the rest of the day or the next day if at night.. I genuinely think she has a sensitive stomach & she’s a toddler putting everything in her mouth. Sometimes something just disagrees with her & back it comes 😷 DD1 has rarely vomited in her 5 years of life, so this has been a bit different for us with DD2!

You can usually tell with a bug. They don’t feel great. Hot, lethargic, off their food. See how you little one is overnight, he might be sick again in which case, probs a bug..

Okay thanks everyone, will keep him home. Here’s hoping it was just a one off.

I'd send him in if no other symptoms..my kids have been randomly sick at times if they drank their mill too fast or perhaps ate too much. If I kept mine off with every small thing they'd hardly ever go in!

TheUsualShitshow · 21/02/2022 22:10

Both my kids once had a bug where they only threw up during the night. Every time I thought it was over, midnight came and we were off again...

For that reason wait the 48 hours - you just can't know.

No wonder this stuff spreads 🙄

The primary school I work at said there was a sickness bug going round so could be that.
