Didn't sterilise baby's bottle

I poured a ready made bottle into a sterilised bottle for my baby as we were out and gave him that but 3 hours later we were still out o went to get another bottle as I usually always have 3 sterilised ones in my bag realises I didn't have another. I was at a friends not so close to home so I just washed it with soap and water, purer another ready made bottle in and gave him that as he was crying foe his bottle. He's 20 weeks old. I always throughly wash and sterilise his bottles so now I'm really worried it may do some harm. As a one off should this be ok?

I’m sure it’s fine doll. Don’t panic x

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 21/02/2022 14:54

It’s fine, but in future would could pour some boiling water over the teat, then obviously let it cool down

VivaDixie · 21/02/2022 14:54

Honestly he will be fine, I did that once or twice with both of mine.

Obviously sterile is the gold standard but you washed the bottle, it was clean, you know your own hygene standards. You did the right thing.

We have always been on top of sterilising pre covid but i think recent times have made us more paranoid about it.

Relax and enjoy the rest of the afternoon and don't think any more of it Flowers

Not much you can do now, just wait and see! I worked for a family who proudly told me 'We aren't a sterilising family' but when I mentioned how underweight their baby was they told me how ill she'd been with a stomach upset and was only just getting her appetite back! Sterilising is important. But the chances of your little one getting ill from this one off are minimal. If you're in the same position again and the bottle can't be sterilised in the microwave you could at least pour boiling water from the kettle onto it and have it sit for a few minutes. Not ideal but would help.

Thanks for the replies that's reassuring to hear! Sorry for the typos also, I typed it in quite a rush!

It's fine, you don't need to sterilise bottles much longer anyway.

Chely · 21/02/2022 15:32

Highly unlikely to be a problem as a one off. If baby is chewing stuff already they have been exposed to some bugs and pre-made formula in the bottles is made in a sterile enviolronment.

This is why I love the mam bottles though, can sterilise them anywhere with a microwave.

You sterilise them for as long as you give formula. It's the bacteria in the formula that can cause issues not general germs.

It's fine. I think the NHS advice is to sterilise bottles once a day and not necessarily after every use.

Oops actually I can't see that it says that so might not be true. It's definitely better to sterilise every time but I'm sure your baby will be fine anyway.
