Showering a Toddler

DC is 2 and hasn't enjoyed baths or showers but tolerated having a bath. We've now moved and only have a shower for DC and was wondering if anyone had any tips to make it less of a mission. Every shower is non-stop screaming and me getting soaked head to toe and I dread having to wash her hair and actually get her clean 🤦‍♀️
Is there anything I can buy to make life easier?

Have you tried taking a shower yourself and letting her wander in and then showering together?

Sprogonthetyne · 20/02/2022 17:25

Shower at the same time, then you don't need to worry about getting wet.

SkankingMopoke · 20/02/2022 17:26

Do you know what it is in particular she hates? What things does she love? Does she respond to bribery?

I think you can get small travel baths that you can put in the bottom of a shower. Alternatively a builders trug would do the same job.

ParkheadParadise · 20/02/2022 17:27

Dd would share a shower with us at that age usually sitting on the floor with her sponge.

Icantremembermyusername · 20/02/2022 17:27

Friend used a small paddling pool in thr shower cubicle. DC got to play in the pool once filled by shower and then stood up for hair wash. Might work?

EatsShoootsAndLeaves · 20/02/2022 17:29

We bought one of those 'trugg' type containers and used it as a bucket-bath for our shower adverse toddler to wash in (in the shower tray). As a treat in the summer he 'bathed' in his bucket in the garden.

Lovemydoggie · 20/02/2022 17:29

My granddaughter exactly the same!Have tried everything. She now gets a shower once a week at swimming ..which she is fine about and once midweek with her mummy..it is just not worth the stress and at this age they are not smelly and sweaty!

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 20/02/2022 17:32

Yes big trug/bucket with bubbles and I know it sounds obvious but taking the shower hose off so you can avoid hair wetting g straight away helped mine as there was lots of panic of being under the shower but if its in a big bucket then shower attachment or a jug for hair washing that's ok
If anything else just hold onto the fact it gets easier

Toys, bath crayons, etc. We only have a shower, our 2 and 4 year old would happily play in there all day with toys x

Garman · 20/02/2022 18:51

Get an ikea baby bath to sit into the shower.

tattychicken · 20/02/2022 18:54

We used a little paddling pool like this Intex 59409NP - My First Pool, 2-Ring, assorted colors www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0001GE2AM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_WJ9KRKJPDVKKRB8JMPTE?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

WildFlowerBees · 20/02/2022 19:04

We got DN 2 one of these shower shields, put a little mirror in the bath behind the taps so he can see what's happening. Got him to hold the shower whilst I washed him and seems to have done the trick no more screaming the place down.

Clippasafe Shampoo Shield https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000G1TDNI/ref=cmswwrcppapiglttiBX27M2WCAM4GR62F7HXD

Yogurtpotofdoom · 20/02/2022 19:05

Do you only have a shower cubicle? No way I'd get myself and a child together in out cubicle. Confused

Buzlightyear1 · 20/02/2022 19:08

I use swimming goggles for son. Also let him shower at the same time as me as uts easier. I got his water table in there with him the other daybhe enjoyed that and tjat made it easier. It can be hard but I try to distract

Savvysix1984 · 20/02/2022 19:11

Try a bucket bath that you can set in the shower.

RandomMess · 20/02/2022 19:11

We had a large baby bath in the bottom of our shower they still fitted in at 6.

Chitchattypatty · 20/02/2022 19:13

Goggles solved this issue for us many years ago! We were on holiday somewhere that didn't have a bath, only a shower and DS was freaking out about the water going in his eyes. We were swimming every day and he was fine going under water with goggles on in the pool so we tried them in the shower - problem solved!!

SamMil · 20/02/2022 19:14

Our daughter was the same and it was because she didn't like the water over her eyes. We started using goggles and she is much better! Lots of shower toys help too

DogsAndGin · 20/02/2022 19:17

Can’t you put a large baby bath in the shower?

Runmybathforme · 20/02/2022 19:30

I completely sympathise with your Dd, I never get my face wet in the shower, absolutely hate the feeling of water in my eyes, and generally don't find it a pleasant experience. Perhaps if you just tried keeping the water gentle, and just on her body ?

Peppaismyrolemodel · 20/02/2022 19:35

Sliding the shower head down was a game changer for us- turns out dd just didn’t like the spray everywhere

Showering together at first too- I sat and held her until confidence increased.

AnnaSW1 · 20/02/2022 19:36

I'd buy an inflatable travel bath. They are fine for that age.
