Things to do with pre teen girls

Sick of the usual, cinema, bowling, trampolining, soft play etc

What else is there to do......

Indoors as weather is crappy. (Not at home)

Afternoon tea was one option but what else, I am so unimaginative.

Trying to think what 2 girls would find enjoyable, I've asked them and they don't know.

In the past when my dd's were 11 & 12 I have made:

  • muffins with different decoration/icing
-a gingerbread house
  • hair scrunchy
  • fudge or rocky road
  • a sock monkey
  • a pencil case
  • a wash bag
  • a nine square patch (to start a quilt)
  • tye died t-shirts
  • made candles with a kit
  • ditto soap
  • made jam
  • biscuits of various shapes, flavours and designs
  • we've painted a drawing of our feet! Grin
  • made and cooked fresh tagliatelle & ravioli and made sauces to go with it
  • planted cutting flowers and veg in containers (it will be time to start seriously very soon so you could order some seeds and propogate them indoors now and plant them out in April or May when the risk of frost is over)
  • trained a puppy
  • taken riding lessons together in an indoor arena

I mean we made them all together from books and You Tube videos (but I sew anyway) but I have started them off by doing the prep and sometimes some of the more boring bits.. Sometimes their friends have joined us. It's an ideal age to do the more intricate crafts like crochet, sewing and knitting.

We also have a bat-detector and a wildlife camera for the garden.

And we have done some editing of little videos for family viewing only and we once started an animation film but we haven't finished it yet.

Oh yes we have made soft rolls and plaited loaves too.

Maybe those are all a bit young? But with crafts such as jewellery making for example, you can up the difficulty as they get older.

@Fruitlesscalisthenics damn you're on the ball. I came on to suggest things but after reading your list I can't think what it was Grin

Mine strangely like a tour round the charity shops followed by the Crystal thingy kinda shop.

Dd1 is boring as feck tbh, VERY hard to please. She wanted to go sit in at greggs yesterday as a treat Hmm

Thanks but the irony is, after all that, nearly eight years on, although they appeared to enjoy it at the time, mine turned out to not actually like crafting very much! They both like maths, science and travel. Grin

They would probably have loved charity shop followed by Crystal thingy shop.

Pottery painting cafe

LouLou198 · 20/02/2022 07:46

Yesterday dd (11) googled upcycling ideas. She made a pencil holder out of an old shampoo bottle with some crafty bits we already had. Today she wants to make a plant pot holder out of a drinks bottle. I have some cheap acrylic paints arriving from Amazon today so that should keep her busy for a while. This week she has also enjoyed a bit of shopping, trip to Nando's, a walk in the woods and visiting the library.

We do pamper afternoons- cheap face masks, manicure, hair do. Play board games. Bullet journaling. Got some Fimo type stuff and a book of things to make with it. Skateboarding. Friends over as much as possible. Baking. And lots of time on screens Confused

Bananagrams or Scrabble. Making traffic light jelly or some other time consuming sweet thing. Doing Nerdle or the crossword together. Online Outschool class on how to draw - an hour’s class usually set her off drawing f improving versions of whatever the class was about for the next few days.
