Newborn crying with me (mother) and fine with everyone else

Has anyone else had this, I feel like a failure. My newborn is fine with anyone else holding her but as soon as it comes to me (her mother) she will start crying and fussing. I do her feeds (expressed breast milk), change her, wash her etc and she is usually fine it's just when we are sitting down she goes mental on me, I feel like she doesn't like me and would rather be with someone else!

You know what, she doesn't even realise you're a different person to her at the moment! You are literally her world. You mean everything to her. This will pass but it's a pain in the arse while it's going on! 💐

Oh bless you… it’s obviously not the case she doesn’t like you! I mean she barely knows you; you have to wait at least a few years before they start screaming “I hate you” 😀

Meantime then, what’s this all about. My best guess is when you cuddle her she smells your milk and fancies her chance at an extra helping. My dd cluster fed - which is shorthand for never let me get a minute’s peace - at this age.

Could also literally be discomfort - is she too scrunched up, or not scrunched up enough, does she feel securely held, do you wear scented deodorant or perfume or make up, are some of your clothes too hot or scratchy.

You smell of milk. You are part of her, and also remind her of food. Otherpeople are just warm swayey shushy things.
She has no concept of people yet.

It’s that you smell of milk. If she cries feed her breast milk. She can’t have too much. My two boys were the exact same

I had similar recently with my 4 month old. This article helped me to see it's because I'm his mum and he expects more comforting from me so feels he can cry more. Hope it helps you too themummybubble.co.uk/babies-cry-mum/#:~:text=This%20reflex%20is%20believed%20to,and%20cling%20to%20their%20parent.&text=That%27s%20not%20to%20say%20daddy,as%20a%20way%20to%20survive

I was gonna say it’s the milk. She can smell it and wants a feed

I agree, she can smell your milk! My DC was the same!
