Hi to all fellow mums! would appreciate your help please! I'm looking for a timer that will tell me when the suggested time for my newborns feed is like maybe beep or light up when the time is up... (currently 3 hours as he is newborn)... the apps don't do it for me i find them impracticable... does anyone know of such a thing? is there a market for such a thing?

Nope. You’re supposed to follow your baby’s feeding cues and feed on demand.

Bitofachinwag · 17/02/2022 17:11

Set a normal alarm, look at a clock or just listen to your baby ( unless there's a medical reason it has to be exactly three hours between feeds).

Sadandfedup2 · 17/02/2022 17:12

Hello, probably not a market for it. When your baby is over their birth weight (assuming no problems) you can stop waking them every 3 hours. Or you may find they feed constantly. Best wishes

All babies are different but many newborns feed more frequently than 3 hourly, especially if they are breastfed. It's also common for small babies to cluster feed, i.e. feed very frequently for a few hours and then sleep for a few hours. Just follow your baby's cues and feed whenever they are hungry.

Mumoblue · 17/02/2022 17:19

I just used to set an alarm on my phone.
And yeah, for other posters here, you should generally feed on demand, but my son was jaundiced and a very sleepy baby and he wouldn’t wake to feed- so I followed midwife advice to use alarms.

So someone just told me about ITZBEEN Pocket Nanny baby care timer. Looking into this... anyone ever used this? Is there any alternative?

Yes, use your baby's cues.

A timer is the minimum amount the should feed. Feed when hungry, that's all there is to it.

Thesearmsofmine · 17/02/2022 17:40

Your baby is your timer. If you have been told they need feeding at set times use the alarm on your phone.

Blanketpolicy · 17/02/2022 17:43

I remember the stage where I lacked confidence in following my babys cues. I had a chart (pen and paper) around week 3-4 to log when he ate and slept which was a little bit helpful as I could see through my sleep deprivation he did kind of have a pattern forming when it felt like I was BF all day and night, but only needed to use it for about a week.

Honestly the Pocket Nanny thing looks like a useless, short lived gimmick that will quickly end up in landfill.

You'll know when to change his nappy without a timer!

MrsTophamHat · 17/02/2022 17:44

They'll tell you when they need fed. Newborns essentially only really wake up to feed. After a couple of weeks when they start being awake a little bit more, you'll notice them working their lips, putting their hands near their mouths etc.

You won't need a gadget to tell you if you're being responsive to your baby.

My sister swore by Huckleberry app for this and I had something similar to try and spot patterns, and I did find it helpful once we got to about 6 weeks to be able to see a rough routine emerging.
gamerchick · 17/02/2022 17:47

You feed them when they want feeding.

Atm you sound like an advert OP.

frogswimming · 17/02/2022 17:54

Yeah I think this is a bit very convincing advert. I had a timer to tell me when to feed my baby. Unfortunately I couldn't turn it off for a year. Wah wah wah.

This 🤷🏻‍♀️ the baby has a natural alarm, can't miss it Wink

It is important to follow the baby's cues because their development needs change, they BF for comfort as well when they are overwhelmed or in pain.....

It's hard work but you'll be fine. Good luck and congratulations on your babyThanks

PurplePansy05 · 17/02/2022 18:07

If you're looking for feedback for a product then be open and honest about it.

Otherwise feed your 'newborn' when he's hungry or use your phone alarm, HTH. Hmm

MyDcAreMarvel · 17/02/2022 18:09

Poor attempt at advertising op.

discombob · 17/02/2022 18:11

Very poor attempt. Why would anyone download an app when all phones have a timer and hopefully everyone with a child has enough brainpower to see when they're hungry

SuperSocks · 17/02/2022 18:12

Who in the heck would need a special alarm to tell them when to feed their baby? Just, you know, look at your baby? They don't even cry until you've ignored all their other hunger cues, so you get plenty of warning that it's time to prep a feed or unhook your nursing bra!

BrimFullOfAsher · 17/02/2022 18:12

I find that their inbuilt mechanism is normally pretty effective 😅

Sausagesausagesausage · 17/02/2022 18:37

If only babies had a way of communicating this. Like crying or something. I dunno.

Amichelle84 · 17/02/2022 18:40

Your baby is your alarm - feed it when it's hungry, not when an app tells you.

collieresponder88 · 17/02/2022 18:43

Ask Alexa or make a note by writing it down

sleepyhoglet · 17/02/2022 19:01

I have one and it was really good when Ds was little

sleepyhoglet · 17/02/2022 19:01

Search baby food timer on App Store. It was free to start then I paid £7.99
