Hi everyone I had my second c scetion 5 weeks ago ut will be 6 weeks on monday
I have a 1year old son whose tall and weighs around 2 stone
I was just wondering when I can lift him again
And when can I start taking my pram out on my own if I take it out I always get my bf to lift it up and down the pavements
My mum also lives 2 miles away would it be safe for me to walk this distance or could it make me bleed
I feel great but I'm scared of hurting myself inside
So was just looking help from people with experience tia

Hi,

You may feel like you are ready around the 6 week mark but honestly don't push yourself. See how you get on with short walks first. When i had my c section i remember thinking i can open and close my pram and i was totally exhausted and sore after and that was around the 6 week mark too. I would go for short walks, try to put off carrying anything for as long as you can. I know its hard especially with your one year old. I rested as much as possible with my c section but i did have a lot of support around me and it was my first. Its been 19 months and i am absolutely fine, my scar can hardly be seen and i have no pain or soreness and i put that down to how much i rested. You need to let yourself heal and take one step at a time. Smile

I'm not saying I'm responsible here, but for me:

I took the pram out by myself (including up a set of 4 steps out of a cafe) on day 4. I lifted my 2yo at about 2w, and went back to carrying her in the sling in my back at 3w, and basically doing everything from then on.

If something hurts, then stop. At 6w though, I don't there are any limits save for high impact excercise.

Wow, I didn't realise how long c-secs leave you incapacitated for!

Definitely making me rethink induction vs c-sec.

It will be different for everyone. Try a 5 minute walk on your own and see how you get on. If that OK do a 10 minute walk.
Try lifting a shopping bag that's a quarter the weigh if your son and see how you get on. Trust what you feel.

Just dont do too much too soon. I did and really regretted it as it pushed my recovery back. You might fine but things inside you are still healing.

Hugasauras · 17/02/2022 14:35

It's different for everyone. I was back walking the dog within about 10 days or so, albeit with some stops along the way. And by 5/6 weeks I was back to normal activity. But just listen to what your body tells you.

It really just depends. I didn't feel incapacitated particularly and was out and about with baby solo pretty early on and able to do pram/car seat/sling fine. But others will have a longer recovery. You just can't tell.

I was never told to restrict walking. By week two I was pushing the pram for at least a few miles at a time on flat ground. By week four I felt completely fine and at six weeks my doctor released me to all normal activity.

What does your doctor say, OP?

Poppy709 · 17/02/2022 15:20

If you feel ok you should be fine to walk those distances as long as you go gentle, just listen to your body. You’ll probably be tired afterwards. I’m not sure about lifting your 1 year old, I’d be careful with that xx

TinyTeacher · 17/02/2022 15:56

Taking the pram by yourself I imagine you'll be fine if you feel fine. Try some short walls first. Lifting 1 year old is trickier, how do you feel with lifting full kettle etc? Don't push your recovery. Soon enough you'll be back to normal.

elvis4nuts · 17/02/2022 16:04

Everyone is different but it took me 12 weeks before I could walk any distance.
Recovery from my VBAC was a dream in comparison !

Chely · 17/02/2022 17:57

I could lift our 6 year olds up 3 weeks after my second c-section. I was back in the gym doing 40kg low bar squats and 80kg deadlifts 10 weeks pp.

Chely · 17/02/2022 18:01

I did 2 mile walk with our eldest 2.5wk pp and felt okay, was buggered after 0.5 mile walk to the local shop at 5 days pp. I probably did too much too soon but I really struggle to rest after illness/injuries/operations.
