What were your child’s first signs of hyper mobility?

DD is 14 months and still not walking. I’m aware some children are late walkers however my concerns are that I have very loose ligaments in my knees and ankles which I’m worried she has inherited from me. DD could sit without assistance and crawl at the average time but was late pulling to stand at 12 months. MIL pointed out she also sits in the W position a lot which apparently also is a sign of hyper mobility. DD is able to cruise furniture and climb and walk while holding our hands however will not stand on her own and flips straight to the floor. FTM so aware I may just been panicking!

My son has been diagnosed with hypermobilty and the initial signs were that he was late to meet all of his physical milestones, so late to sit up, crawl, bum shuffle, crawl, walk, run, jump etc.

He also struggled with balance and climbing. As he was physically weaker than his peers, he was also quite anxious around other children and was scared of being hurt and falling over.

He does sit in a W.

If you are concerned, you can pay privately to get a physiotherapist to assess him. Our health visitor dismissed our concerns and was incorrect. He has been having private weekly physio for approx 2 years and it has really helped.

I was told to discourage ds from w sitting fir any length if time. Tbh, he usually chooses to lie down, he is very bendy, but also quite floppy. He was discharged by physio at 2, 6 months after he began walking. He couldn't run until he was 3 but doesn't have a diagnosis if anything.

DD diagnosed JHMS at 8& a bit later Ehlers Danlos, so we didn't know about it back then, nor that I had it too. Learning about Hypermobility though, I can look back & see the early signs we're digestive tract problems, reflux, diarrhoea, cramping etc. also sensitivities to foods, chemicals additives in bubble bath, soap etc & that she sat W shaped on the floor & she never crawled, but bum shuffled & then she got up & walked at 9 months & was running upstairs within a week. I agree what you describe sounds

Urgh, the cat wrapping himself around my typing arm & hit send to soonBlush

I agree this sounds pretty normal

I've a diagnosis of ehlers danlos syndrome and I met all my milestones early. If you're concerned then I'd contact your health visitor.
