Ive had a drop in milk supply after i had covid and got my first period back, and i feel so sad Sad i have tried alot of things, even £60 cookies shipped from america.. ive tried brewers yeast, oats, flax seeds ( which helped but then dropped) mothers milk tea, drinking and eating plenty.

The best way to up your supply is to feed feed feed! Every couple of hours get your baby to the breast. As soon as your body registers an increase in "demand" it will increase your supply.

Also, almonds are said to increase supply, I don't know how true that is though!

What makes you think your supply has dropped? How old is baby? Agree with @JustMaggie, the only proven way is to feed feed feed.

Feed every 2 hours and from both breasts. Expressing also helps (if you can)

Blessed thistle (possibly with fenugreek)?

JustMaggie · 16/02/2022 18:24

I suppose then your best bet would be to pump pump pump! You have to convince your body that your baby is demanding more milk. The more you pump, the more your body will produce. Don't worry if no milk comes out, it's the "sucking" that makes your body up the milk supply. Just get that pump on as much as possible! Good luck!

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 16/02/2022 18:31

The only thing that helped me was fenugreek... I bought a jar of it from tescos and would drink it as tea after each feed. Basically I would put a spoonful in a mug, add sugar to counteract the slight bitterness, and fill the mug with boiling water. A couple of hours later I could feel my milk coming on. I was 100% sceptical before trying but it worked for me, dramatically so.

TinyTeacher · 16/02/2022 18:37

Keep pumping, and keep putting baby on as often as possible. Your supply drops of your body thinksit isn't needed. How often do you pump? I was advised to do every 3 hours including overnight, and to pump for 20-30 mins per side, even though I got her little after 15 mins. Your body needs to think there is a hungry baby demanding more....

Drink loads of water, pump, pump, pump and magnesium supplements around your period help.

Pumping often requires an emotional response so look at photo of and your child if they are not there and sniff them while pumping if you can. Cover the bottle with a sock so you cant think about how much you milk you are getting.

ImInACage · 16/02/2022 19:00

Lots of feeding and oats. Anytime I was I'll and my supply dropped, I'd eat a lot if porridge or eat flapjacks.

Great advice here OP - sounds like you've had a tough time of it! Really hope it goes well for you Flowers

Have you had no other advice or help in getting him to latch? Teeth don't stop babies from latching babies with teeth feed fine sounds like you need an actual expert to help you not poorly trained in bf gps and hv

The trouble with pumping is it's not in response to a biological trigger as such. I believe (I may be wrong) I that when you bf by actually nursing there are things (hormones etc) in the babies saliva that affect the amount and quality of the milk

This is what makes the milk change eg when baby is poorly to meet their specific needs

If that natural trigger isn't there that may be why you're losing supply?

DS had trouble latching in the beginning too.

Have you tried using nipple shields? They were an absolute game changer with DS. Using the side-lying position helped too with DS. One trick that I used with DS was to put a dummy in his mouth and rock him to sleep, then pull the dummy out and poke the end of the nipple shield into his mouth before he’d noticed that the dummy had gone.

If he latches then pulls off after a few seconds you could try using a supplemental nursing system to encourage him to stay on the breast longer.
