Hello Mumsnet!

I hope you can help

When I go back to work next week, my mum will be looking after my daughter and she wants to take her out and about in the pram.

I usually use a carrier and was always told to use layers and be careful about overheating so the bits I have for that aren't right for the pram.

What should I dress her in?

She's at an age where she will want to be getting out of the pram, she's learning to walk and she's a confident crawler.

Should I get her a coat or a pramsuit? Or both?

If I get a pramsuit should I go with or without feet? If without feet what should I put on her feet instead? I was told not to put her in shoes until she can walk confidently and she's not there yet at all

Please help i'm really unsure and confused

Will she be napping in the pram or just out and about for short journeys?
If napping, I'd strongly recommend some kind of CosyToes. If not, then a pram suit is probably overkill. I assume you have outdoors stuff - just layer her up. I wouldn't bother with shoes unless she's going to be walking outside. You say she'll be getting out of the pram - are we talking at a playground, in a shop....?

@TinyTeacher

Probably getting out to crawl around/coast in the park, in cafes. She's much happier if she gets a chance to stretch her legs. I don't imagine she will sleep in the pram as she never has for me but I don't know 🤷🏻‍♀️ maybe she will.

I’d get a cosy toes for pram then waterproof coat, waterproof dungarees that can be packaged away (not cheap but Jojo do great ones) then some soft shoes for if walking outside.

I have a great puddlesuit from sainsburys, i think it was £15ish. It's like a pramsuit but not as thick, just thin-ish waterproof. Great for romping around and not too hot.

If she's still crawling she needs waterproof legs i reckon so she can crawl on damp grass

My DS has a snowsuit for very cold days, a winter coat and a cosy toes for "average" temperatures and if it's raining he has a waterproof puddlesuit from Regatta, I can put this on over his coat but I've seen other parents put the puddlesuit on then the coat over the top. For toddling around he wears wellies, very easy to put on and pull off and more roomy on the feet. He loves wading through every puddle he sees, shoes would get ruined!

Get either an all in one rainsuit or separate waterproof trosuers/dungarees and a coat. Lidl do waterproofs cheaply.

I would get soft shoes if she's going to be outside, but if you are anti-shoes you can put her in slippers with waterproof shoes covers over the top - you can get these from Playshoes, H & M, Jojo.

I have a coat and a puddlesuit for DD and the coat has been worn about 5 times, usually things like going to the shops where she wont be getting out of the pram. She lives in her puddlesuit otherwise, regatta do some nice fleece lined ones so they're warm too!

ThatsGoingToHurt · 16/02/2022 08:50

I would get her a coat and a puddle suit. A coat for when she is walking or in the pushchair (assuming you have got a cosy toes). Then a puddle suit for the park so if she decided to fall over in the mud she will be covered!

I dress DD in a winter coat a size up so it’s a little loose as I find it easier to get on and off.
I’ve not bothered with a puddlesuit, I had one for DS and found it a bit of a faff. I’ll get her some waterproof trousers when she’s older and a more competent walker, we like to go walking as a family.
Blanket wise I just wrap her up in a couple of knitted blankets, she’s always snug.

Coat plus cosy toes (blanket under it for chillier days) with hat and mittens available under the buggy. Puddlesuit also under the buggy. Rain covers can go over the buggy on windier/wetter days.

Splash suit so she can crawl around the park and cruiser shoes are what they're meant to wear before they can properly walk. You can get them in Clark's they have soft outer souls.

Sausagesausagesausage · 16/02/2022 09:17

Cosy toes for buggy with a coat - blankets get kicked off ime. My not yet walking DC has cruisers for when we're at stay & plays and for having a toddle round coffee shoes. He has waterproof trousers for going in the swings and when he's eventually on his feet. Puddle suits don't seem to fit my long in the body, short in the legs children. I don't let him crawl round in the park though, I've seen way too many irresponsible dog owners. Envy (not envy)

I bought a fleece lined puddlesuit from hippychick that is great for keeping my daughter warm and dry outside and a pair of stonz bottles from eBay. She's warm and dry and can crawl and totter to her hearts content. She has a pair of cruisers from Clark's too for the last 2 weeks and is flying in them.
