Happyland toys… any good?

Are Happyland toys any good? How long did your DCs play with them for?

DS is only 10 months so we haven’t got anything like this yet, and he’ll probably only be interested in the bigger vehicle bits for now - just wondering if it’s worth investing.

Any other recommendations for toys for this age welcome.

We got DD some happy land toys around that age and he’s now 4.5 and I’m only now getting rid of them as she consistently played with them. I’d have a look for them second hand though; I often see them on Facebook marketplace

Zolla · 15/02/2022 16:13

Yes, they are brilliant. Really sturdy, chunky, toddler proof toys! They are bright & colourful and cover a range of interests. We’ve got loads & my 4.5 year old still plays with them if I get them out for her little sister.

I highly recommend getting them second hand. All of ours have come from Facebook market place at a fraction of the cost of new & in excellent condition.

A personal recommendation is the train track. The train is electronic, you pop a figure in it and it moves on its own both on the track or the carpet/floor.. endless entertainment to my girls! But do not pay £50 for it.. the full price of these toys is eye watering!

Yes but don't pay full price. Sale or second hand

My DC only played with them and handful of times so I'd suggest getting a few bits first rather than getting loads and regretting it!!

mnahmnah · 15/02/2022 16:18

Both my DS loved them and they lasted a while, from 18m-ish to 3-ish. Particularly the space rocket and the farm set.

Look on eBay and marketplace for bundles going cheaper.

minniep · 15/02/2022 16:18

Like everything it depends on your child. Mine love them. They always liked any small toy that you can hold easily in your hand. Fisher price little kingdom is another range I'd highly recommend. Almost three year old DD is currently playing at the sink with a pile of plastic happyland/fisher price characters.

mnahmnah · 15/02/2022 16:18

And yes the train track! Brilliant!

Princesspickle777 · 15/02/2022 16:20

Yes! Really worth the money but you can loads of 2nd hand on eBay/marketplace etc. My eldest DD1 is 4 and has had sets since 12 months and still plays with them along with 21 month old DD2. I also get a lot of sets in the January sales.

twomumsonebump · 15/02/2022 16:23

I hope so! MIL has just found about 7 different sets on facebook and bought them all!

Topbird29 · 15/02/2022 16:29

Loved happyland. The bus was popular - came with 3 or 4 people. They used to include happyland in some argos, and some boots deals. And loads are often on Facebook, or charity shops.

Imissprosecco · 15/02/2022 16:33

The farm is brilliant. DS got it for his first birthday and still plays with it almost daily 18 months later

Fivebyfive2 · 15/02/2022 16:33

They're fantastic!! My 2 year old absolutely loves them and had done since just before 18 months. I 2nd the tip about 2nd hand too. The fire station, engines and figures off ebay was quite literally the best £15 I've ever spent!!

Imissprosecco · 15/02/2022 16:33

It's been good for teaching him animals and their sounds

caprimoon · 15/02/2022 16:44

@mnahmnah

And yes the train track! Brilliant!
Same, gets played with still by DS at 4 years old.
mnahmnah · 15/02/2022 17:25

The band is also good. Each figure plays a different aspect of the song and taking each one of at a time changes the layers. Very educational and catchy tunes

mnahmnah · 15/02/2022 17:25

*off!

JemimaTiggywinkle · 15/02/2022 19:35

Thank you! I’ll have a look at fb marketplace.

It depends on the child I think. Dd1 (very into small world play) loved them at every playgroup we went.

So when dd2 came along and I didn't know what to get her I decided on happyland. She's shown barely any interest at all (much more a roleplay kid)

Dd1 played with them until just before she turned 5 and would still sit and play a bit if I got them out at nearly 6

Dd2 just has no interest at all. Her friend (3 year old) loves them when she comes round for a playdate though

FindmeuptheFarawaytree · 15/02/2022 19:43

Yes, brilliant for my dd. She got the zoo for her first birthday and has been playing with it today at nearly 4! She goes through phases but she always comes back to them. Look around for the best deals though as they are often heavily discounted.

Ikeptgoing · 15/02/2022 20:15

Brilliant toys, so many sets , so cute and such imaginative play.

Quite often people sell huge sets to hand down on local facebook selling pages. So look out as you can buy or add to your sets ...

Worth the investment though as our bought new sets for my PFB did brilliant for all our 3 children (with the bigger ones still playing with youngest with it)

They last so well! The sets we had built up have since gone through 2 other families within our bigger family.... and are still going...!

Rrrob · 15/02/2022 20:31

DTs love happyland stuff. We got some second hand on fb marketplace.

RaisinforBeing · 15/02/2022 20:38

I had mountains of this stuff. I think we had most of the sets and I even went nuts and started buying retired sets from eBay. It was played with by my eldest from about age 1 to age 6 and then it was her sisters turn. I bought all mine new (except the retired sets) but at the time a lot of it was half price from the old ELC. It was still worth it.

Thesearmsofmine · 15/02/2022 20:44

Yes it’s fab. My eldest had it from about 12 months and we got rid of it when the youngest was around 5 years. That’s 10 years of use and it was still in excellent condition despite being used by 3 dc.

NuffSaidSam · 15/02/2022 20:45

Happyland is great. It does depend on the individual child as to how much it gets played with though.

Duplo is another good one and ime they love the bricks long before they can actually build anything (they enjoy taking them out, putting them in, holding them, taking them apart, pushing the cars etc). It means it lasts ages, up until 4 or 5 easily.

Glenthebattleostrich · 15/02/2022 20:45

As a childminder they are the most consistently played with toys. They are really robust too.
