Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me and hopefully put my mind at ease.
I'm a first time mum and fear my next hv weigh in with little one.

Baby has jumped 2 centile line now placing her on 98th when baby was born she was on 75th she is 4months old I have also measured her length best I can and if my measurements are correct she has jumped a centile on there too also taking her to 98th should I be concerned how much she has gained or am I just being a typical first time mum worrying?
I don't no why I have such a fear of the hv

Hoping someone can put my mind at ease

I wouldn't worry about it too much.
They have growth spurts so can go up and down on the charts which is why they recommend not doing measurements too often. HV rarely worry if their weight and length are within a couple of centiles of eachother.

Why do you fear your HV?

She should be there to help and support, but to terrify you. Use her.

Is it her manner?

My little boy was on the 47th percentile at birth, at 12 weeks he was 74th, he's now in the 91st percentile for height and weight and 98th percentile for head circumference. HV and GP have no concerns and he's hitting all milestones. My DP is 6'3" and I'm 5'10" so not too shocked at his height, was more surprised he was born so average (born at 40weeks).

Firstly I would go and have her properly weighed, with calibrated scales etc.

My daughter jumped 2 centiles and I was told I was feeding her too much (she was exclusively breastfed) but she has remained at that centile ever since and she's 5 now so I guess it was OK.

I'd say get her measured properly and you may need more than one measurement to judge progression. They are usually more worried about dropping centiles as well. DS was born just over 50th, dropped to under the 9th by 6 weeks (down three lines) and was back up at 99.8th for weight at 5 months so had crossed back up seven lines. He ended up being measured a lot as was at risk of failure to thrive. (Height went from 50th to 91st at same time as weight dropped). Since then he's followed the 99.8th line for weight and they're happy so you can cross a lot of centile lines in the early months and it be fine!

Thank you everyone for your reply's some have really helped ❤️

@DockOTheBay Firstly I have had her "properly" weighed last month and I have an appointment on Friday thank you for that advice Smile
i just weighed her on my brand new baby scales my parents bought to see what I cud roughly be expecting, probably the worst gift they could have bought but they thought they was being helpful

It doesn't sound like you're very confident about the measurements since you said you measured "as best you can" and "if your measurements are correct". That's why I suggested getting her properly measured with the scales that medical professionals have which are calibrated and checked, rather than home scales.

Hey,

My LO is 21 weeks and was weighed last week by HV . He was 20lbs! He has jumped 2 centiles and on top one now.
Hv said he is tall and his head is above top centile so this explains weight. He said he is in proportion though for length head etc and that she not concerned.

I am going back 2 mths from last weigh to review when he will of also started weaning then. He is only on formula at present.
Hi said once he starts weaning his weigh gain should be steady and even out and to tey BLW. He currently feeds every 3 ish hours during the day! Occasionally a bit longer. 7 or 8 oz a time . 3 to 5 hours in the night if I'm lucky.

I was the one who asked for him to be weighed as I weighed roughly at home and realised he was the same weight my others were at around 7 months and he was only 4mths!

I'm still abit concerned even though HV isnt at the moment. I don't want my baby being over weight .

If your baby has jumped in both weight and height then baby is perfectly in proportion and super healthy! Jumping four centiles is usually a concern especially if only on one curve.
