7 month old baby screaming/crying all night

Actually going insane.

7 month old DD screams/cries at 5/10-minute intervals all night. She'll stop, drift off, and then start really screaming again out of nowhere, constantly, again and again.

Starts about 10 mins after she's put down (6.30/7pm) until 7am when we get up.

If I lean over the cot and sort of cuddle her it works sometimes, but often doesn't. Bed sharing doesn't work.

I've tried leaving her to self settle, feeding her and not feeding her, giving her water, room temperature is fine, she's not uncomfortable, and daytime naps are fine (on the short side). I even gave her Calpol once thinking she must be in some kind of pain, but it didn't help.

I just have no idea what to do. Any advice welcome

Sounds like something isn’t right, I would take her to the gp x

How long has this been going on for op? Is this her usual pattern or just temporary? My baby does this when he's sickening for something, but it's only temporary, for a few days.

Is she in your room, Lego? If not it might be a good idea to have her with you, she is a very young baby and I know they like to be very close to mum (& dad of course). There is something reassuring about hearing you breathing.

The other thing is she may be going to bed too early. There's no one-size-fits-all rule for babies, they vary so much in how much sleep they need. Some are quite alert and interested in what is going on during the evening, even at an early age.

Good luck. This won't last forever.

No advice just solidarity. Our DS seems constipated from starting weaning so trying to address that. But weirdly he’s happy during the day so I’m not sure why it would be so much worse at night. Was doing great on the sleeping a month ago and now awful and like you say waking all the time screaming. He can actually self settle too so I have no idea

Thank you all for your posts. She has done this on and off since 4 months, before that was a very good and contented sleeper. She is happy in the day. It's just at night...

Have you spoken to a doctor? Could just be a terrible 4 month regression, my DS was very bad but every hour, not every 10 minutes. There’s certain conditions that are worse lying down - problems with ears for example, or enlarged tonsils or adenoids, even sleep apnea. Worth getting checked.
