Cabin bed?

We are getting our 6 year old a new bed (her little sister will be having her bed)

We have talked about cabin beds and discussed that she won't be able to jump on her bed (but that's ok because she can jump on her sisters bed). I can still snuggle in bed because I am of able body to get up there.

What's your experience? Is it a novelty? Practical? I will try and post a link to the one I am thinking.

Bit of a pain in the arse to change the sheets unless you're really tall or happy to climb up there, also very heavy and difficult to move, so make sure you're happy with the position.

DD loved hers, liked having a den underneath, tended to gather bazillions of toys in there and then I'd have to crawl in and dump everything out to make space again but she did really like it.

My 6 year old has a cabin bed. It's good for space saving and he loves it. I wouldn't climb up on it as well, and I do miss not being able to get in for a cuddle. It does make it so difficult to change the sheets too. Personally, unless she needs to save space I would go for a normal bed. X

It's more the fun of it then the space. I don't know what to do !!!

I’ve just got one for my daughter who is 6. Total hit. I get in too. I use her bathroom step to help change/ make it. It’s a mild PITA but not so much I wouldn’t have it. Love those steps up. DD had one with a straight ladder and manages fine but I’d have liked those ones in the pic.

If you don't need the space and drawers and stuff then why not something like this where you can flip it from cabin to standard if you decide you don't like the cabin style

It looks quite small/babyish, my concern would be how long it would last.

BertieBotts · 12/02/2022 21:04

My 3yo has one with a slide on it. He still jumps on it :o he loves it and it's great. He doesn't use the den part that much, but it's a great space to put the bulkier toys and I think a second mattress will fit under there to make a kind of bunk bed.

RedCandyApple · 12/02/2022 21:07

It does look babyish to me like it wouldn’t last long. We have a mid sleeper and I don’t find changing the sheets hard but I pull the mattress towards me to put them over rather than climbing up, it’s not difficult.

I like them but a friend was graphically described her DD have a sick bug in her cabin bed & her vomiting over the side on more than one occasion and that put me off 😂🙈 said friend now has a normal bed where a bucket can be placed be next too 😂

Chely · 13/02/2022 00:30

That'd be fine.

We have bunk beds and a loft bed for ours, notvthe easiest to change (especially when I was heavily pregnant) but still doable.
Like a pp said, vomiting bugs can be a nightmare. We had one throw up from top bunk and it did make a widespread mess, I give them a tub if I know they feel sick though so they don't have to try get down fast.

Thanks, some interesting thoughts.
The bed is a full size single bed, so not worried about it being babyish. She will love the den space underneath.

I have ordered it now so it's too late anyway !!! 😂
