Double pram or buggy board

Hi all,

I am currently 9 weeks pregnant and also have a 17 month old who will be 2 when baby arrives.

Would you recommend getting a double pram or buggy board. My daughter is a good Walker but we do a lot of walks and we stuff on our own a lot which I would continue to do when I have no 2. However she can be a nightmare in public most likely due to her age grabbing everything in sight!!

I want to have a back up but I already have 2 prams but I don't know! Helpppp

@Franny0696 we decided to go for a single to double pram its the uppababy vista v2, has a great toddler seat with a high weight limit and can be used as a single or double with a huge basket.

My son will be exactly 2.5 years but I want to be able to go walking with them once recovered.

We had a buggy board when we had our second but our daughter was just over 3 when he was born and the buggy board had a seat, we used it a lot!

I have 2 years 4 months and I couldn’t decide then bought the double off Amazon when in labour. I got loads of use out of it. Bad day? Strap them both in and walk!

Later on the big one would cycle and when she got bored I’d put her bike in the second seat and she’d walk. It was one where they are behind each other.

Double for sure with that age gap.

Could have been an uppababy? Cant remember now.

I'd go for the double. I used the double up until the eldest was around 3. That's when he started to demand to walk everywhere.

I think you should assess closer to the time. 2 year olds and their capacity/willingness to walk and behave whilst doing so vary wildly. My DS is nearly 21 months and, if we were too have another baby in a few months I think we’d need a double - he’s not got a huge capacity for walking far and won’t really go in a set direction. I can’t see him being able to understand he must stay on a buggy board in 3 months time. My SIL might get away without a double with regards to her youngest though, who’s been walking since 9 months and can walk far in a set direction…although he does like to sprint off and not hold hands, which could be tricky.

Could you try DC2 in a sling and keep DC1 in the buggy? By 2.5 DC1 might be fully done/more able to use a buggy board and then you can swap them over.

Double, my two year old still napped and better for long days out etc

MoorGirl · 12/02/2022 16:13

I was set against a double, but got a second hand out n about on Facebook a couple of weeks ago as it was going cheap- absolutely brilliant! 22 month old and 3 month old, have used it everyday since and baby loves to nap in it. Would highly recommend. It's also much easier to push than our maxi cosi single pram, even with two in.

HeyRememberThatTime · 12/02/2022 16:21

Single buggy, buggy board and sling.

NuffSaidSam · 12/02/2022 16:33

I'd go double buggy with that age gap.

Unless you plan on using a sling a lot, in which case you'll probably be ok with a single and buggy board.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 12/02/2022 16:37

Double definitely. You can manage with the alternatives but I would sell one of your current two and keep a foldable for the car boot for example. It will make life so much easier to be able to strap two in and go somewhere at pace

Topjoe19 · 12/02/2022 17:27

I was just saying to my DH today I wished I'd had a double buggy when I had my second DD, my first DD had only just turned 2 when she was born. I had a buggy board which was ok but even now I wish I had the double buggy!!

SheWolfOFFrancee · 12/02/2022 17:31

Double all the way. We had the cosatto xl wow which was fabulous. It can configure in lots of different ways

MindyStClaire · 12/02/2022 17:56

Definitely the double. When the adorable 17 month old is in the terrible twos, ability and willingness to walk will no longer be remotely correlated. Double gives you more options, two year old can get it and out.

Get a proper light one like an out n about. I have a vista and it's perfect as a single but shite as a double, steers like a bus. The out n about I can push single handed with ease, leaving the other for toddler hand holding/coffee/scooter.

Caspianberg · 12/02/2022 18:07

I would get one. Ds is 21 months, he’s a very confident Walker, but only in the direction he wants! Plus he naps still. So 100% I would buy a double if I had another due within the next 6+ months.

I would get the bugaboo donkey. Can use as single later with lots of storage, and friends say it works well with buggy board in future. You could sell both singles you currently have.

YukoandHiro · 12/02/2022 18:09

Double pram at that age. My DD was over 3 when my little one came and she used the buggy board consistently til almost 4 and once fell asleep standing up as she was so tired from walking 😭

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 12/02/2022 18:28

We had 25 months between ours and just used the same travel system as for DD1 but with a buggy board on. If we went out for a whole day we used the pushchair setting and put dD2 in a sling when Dd1 needed to nap. She did very occasionally fall asleep standing up on the buggy board but normally very close to home! And she's a great walker now!!
