Awful bus ride

My little boy is 7 weeks old and I can’t drive thanks to my epilepsy! 😔

I took him on the bus to town the other day and he was crying because he was hungry, I breastfeed him and I didn’t feel safe taking him out of the pram to feed him when the bus was being driven so roughly.

However while I was on the bus, an older lady said to me it’s not good to let them cry and I should pick him up. I was having to hold onto the pram so it didn’t fall over around corners, I would have dropped him.
I told her I breastfed him so I couldn’t easily feed him, she told me I should keep a bottle of milk available for times like those.

Then an older lady came on the bus and said that she couldn’t bare to hear a baby cry to another old lady she didn’t even know. Said I should just get on and breastfeed him.

I took him out of the pram and although it didn’t feel safe I breastfed him.
I ended up breaking down and crying, asking them to leave me alone and did they really think I wanted to let my baby cry.

It was the first time out alone with him & now I’m scared to go on the bus with him again 😔

Anyone saying “just breastfeed or pick him up“ have some compassion. When I was breastfeeding it was a complete nightmare trying to do it out and about my dd was really awkward and I certainly wouldn’t have been able to do it on a bus. At 7 weeks with a first baby I would have also been nervous about trying to hold onto a baby and a pram.
OP I’m sorry you had a tough ride - it will get easier and you just have to learn to ignore others.

I use to pick up my baby on the bus 🤷‍♀️ No one is saying she has to just that if it looked like she was ignoring the cries that’s why people were commenting, people have very very low tolerance for crying babies on public transport imo.

That's there issue . Not the ops.
Babies cry it's no ones fault and sometimes you can't do anything about it at that exact moment.
I don't blame op for not wanting to feed on a bus .
It's a nightmare. I don't drive either

OP hope you are ok and well done you :)

@RedCandyApple
Just to provide more information, not at any point was i “ignoring” my baby crying. I’m not sure how any parent could. I was leaning into my baby stroking his face, shhhhing him, using white noise from my phone, trying to get him to suck on my finger.
I’m glad you were able to pick up and safely hold your baby on your bus journeys, however I have been getting a bus for the last two years and it was not safe to take him out of the pram.

Thank you for all the kind messages. I am going to attempt it again next week.
I will try the dummy suggestion, although he seems to hate them. I wish he would take them. It would make experiences like that so much easier.
