Any experienced sling-wearers around?

I'm using my hug-a-bub which is a stretchy wrap sling with my 3 week old ds. I used it before with dd but not until she was about 3 months old and could hold her head up.

Feeling a bit nervous about it today because last few days whenever I have put him in he has fussed and squirmed and seemed uncomfortable. I'm almost certain I've got it fastened properly - he's in the upright position because I cant get on with the cradle position (it feels like he is falling out and he seems squashed in half).

Is it normal for baby to fuss when first put in? He has settled tonight but only after a little cry and now I feel guilty in case he was uncomfortable but just gave in to tiredness.

I really need to make baby-wearing work as I have a very demanding 2.2 year old, plus ds wont settle for long in his own chair or basket before he cries to be picked up.

Any suggestions for getting the cradle position right in this type of sling - or would I be better with a ring-sling for this position?

Odd isn't it? DD1 seemed to fit perfectly and with DD2 I was forever in front of a mirror going 'I'm sure this is right' and pulling and fussing at her. Gave up in the end and put her in the Baby Bjorn type one which worked better.

I couldn't do the cradle with my (non stretchy calin bleu gauze) wrap either - have ended up a pouch convert as the cradle was much easier.
Now (4m) she likes the inward-facing buddha

I never managed cradle either with my karrime (same type of stretchy wrap), I carried dd2 in upright position all the time from very early, better for colicky babies anyway. They do usually fuss when first in I think, as long as they settle quite quickly it will be fine, just make sure it is pulled up behind his head. Good luck.

okay so its not just me then - the video makes it look deceptively easy grrr

mrsbadger, are pouch slings okay for several hours at a time - eg in terms of only supported on one shoulder?

they're ok but not as comfy as a wrap - someone suggested getting two from somewhere cheap eg here and wearing one on each shoulder, Tricotti style

I am evangelical about these: marsupi

Like a mei tai with velcro, explicitly suitable from birth up. Have had 3mo ds2 in it since 1 week (and have a 2.7yo so Understand ).

I can only find pages on them in German (or Italian), but you get the idea. The company I linked do have FANTASTIC service and I'm sure they speak English too.

I use the Moby wrap which is similar to the Hug a Bub and we love it. Dd did squirm initially though and I got in a fluster
