Changing baby from carry cot to stroller

Hi all

When did you all stop putting your baby in the carry cot and change over to the stroller seat? My little one is only 10 weeks but absolutely hates laying on his back in the carry cot as he can't look around. I really want to change him over to the stroller but understand this shouldn't be until about 6 months... I just don't know how I can continue with the carry cot for that long! What did everyone else do?!

Thanks!

What buggy do you have? I have the uppababy vista and there is an insert you can buy for the seat which means it can be used from newborn. Does yours have something similar?

5 months here I think 6 months is the reccomended but she seems so much happier so we are rolling with it!

also as above depends on your pram

About five months, tried for six but he was trying to roll over and haul himself up.

At 10 weeks surely he's happy looking at the sky? Mine loved looking at the trees at that age.

My son hated the carrycot. We used our stroller from early on but it was a lie flat one. Although to be honest he wasn't keen on that either so spent most of the time in a sling.

12 weeks for us as they are too long for the carrycot now. Our stroller lies flat so while they are awake I sit them up ever so slightly and lay them flat if they fall asleep

If the seat on your buggy is only suitable from 6 months then how about investing in a cheap travel buggy that folds very small? It will be useful in the future for holidays and public transport (we use ours on trips to London) and most have a seat that lies flat and is suitable from birth (a foot muff would make it soft enough - zip the top off when it gets warm). We have the Joie Pact but John Lewis and Cossatto make similar ones. It might not drive as well as your main buggy but that shouldn't be as noticeable with a light baby on board rather than a heavy toddler.

I have just swapped my four month old today, he was actually touching both ends of the carrycot so no choice really! He also was starting to get very grumpy in the carrycot so I think it is better for that too. I think I also swapped my DS at around four months too, he’s three now and seems ok so hopefully it’s alright to do.

My DD was 13 months when we changed, but she sat up, strapped in with reins from around 7 months,

My DS screamed none stop lying flat in the bassinet. To be honest he screamed pretty much none stop for his first 4 months anyway. We swapped to the buggy attachment between 4 or 5 months and he positively enjoyed buggy rides by about 6 or 7 months. You have my sympathy as it was a nightmare getting out of the house, he was slightly more tolerant of the sling, but not by much I have to say. Time is probably your friend here, it will pass!

Nearly 6 months for DS and 4 months for DD. DD had very good head control and kept the seat as flat as possible for most of the time until she was a bit older but she wasn't spending hours in the pram each day.

Could you get a little mobile tho g to attach to the hood of the carrycot?

As long as your push chair lays flat, then they can go in it from birth. Both of my babies hated lying flat in the carry cot so changed then at 10 weeks. We have the M&P Occarro which is suitable from birth. Have a cosy toes too which keeps them cosy and it's got a head rest to support them. What pram do you have?

RandomQuest · 03/02/2022 10:35

4 months with both of mine. They didn’t really like being flat and my second is really tall and his feet didn’t fit! They had good head control, we’re rolling over etc, so I didn’t see the harm especially as I kept it very reclined until they got closer to 6 months. 10 weeks is probably a bit young though. If it’s only for sure trips and you don’t go over the time limits, you could try attaching the car seat instead as LO might like that better.
